I don't have single good memory... Nothing. Kyun...
~ Jin Seon on his life.
You little bastard
~ Dongsoo on his final confrontation with Jin.

Jin Seon is the main protagonist of the psychological horror webcomic Bastard, and is the son of the series main antagonist Dongsoo Seon. Since Jin was a child, he was used by his father as a means to lure others into torturous murders by knocking them out and letting his father do all the dirty gruesome work. Throughout Jin's life, he grew to hate what his father was getting him into and when he encountered a girl named Kyun Yoon, who was seen as a target for Dongsoo's twisted desire to physically chop apart, he became protective over her, which sets the footnote for him to take a stand against his fathers murderous atrocities.

Appearance[]

Jin is of average height, and is scrawny physic wise, his hair is long fringe with a color of metal black. His head is somewhat oval and has one real eye with with the other that is not real that is made of glass.

Personality[]

As a child, Jin was seemingly a normal child like everyone else, being content with his family, but the dark tragedy of the matter was the fact that he was influenced by his father to partake in kidnapping and chop up women's body parts off while laughing and enjoying his killing spree and It was rather apparent that his moral agency of understanding how wrong it was to commit such vile acts wasn't well understood since he was a very young child at the time under Dongsoos extremely bad example. The situation for Jin embracing his father's traits was getting worse as he was bragging to his mother about how he was liking the fact that he was killing people in such a graphic and gory way, resulting in him getting pushed off a building by his mother so that he wouldn't grow to be like his father. This in return caused a game changing mental trauma on Jin becoming a dissociative figure, creating a defense mechanism to forget for the longest time about his mother nearly killing him.

This devastating event left Jin confused on why his mother was no longer around after the incident, and had some suspicion that Dongsoo may had been of the reason. It was from that point he soon saw his father as the monster he is, developing unbridled and constant hatred at the very sight of him. Not only does Jin immensely hate Dongsoo, but is in fear, paranoia and terrified of him to the levels of having vivid  nightmares of his father haunting him as if he is a demonic presence watching, following and torturing him everywhere he goes. Jins' psychedelic fear of Dongsoo share qualities of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder where Dongsoo in Jin's mind is seen descriptive Lovecraftian style aspects of symbols that represent Jins inner struggle in overcoming the fear of his father and violent thrill seeking tendencies.

An example of Jins fear of his father, is him trying to do push ups without Dongsoo looking, just so that he can be strong enough to face him and his bullies. Jins fear of Dongsoo also involves being obedient to what his father tells him to do, with knocking out victims for Dongsoo to murder and satisfy his thrill seeking desires. Part of this became somewhat the norm for Jin as the life style molded him to almost see it as a rough deal to make than a crime, such as sacrificing others to save people who he deeply cares about.

Arriving at the age of seventeen, Jin's personality is shown be anti-social with everyone including his peers and especially his father. Jins character was so unappealing that he was seen as a punching bag to Manny Kim and Beau Park, in which Jin is usually helpless at the sight of them in not taking a stand for himself. But his confidence in being more courageous gets boosted when he sees a girl Kyun Yoon, whom he develops a strong bond for during the series progression.

The bond with Kyun gets so personal for Jin that he has dreams seeing her as a angelic light in his troubled soul, healing him from his constant sorrows in living in a nightmare. This makes Kyun as a person to cherish and protect, because if he loses her then heads back to the miserable state he was in before, and the more Dongsoo got interested in wanting to kill her, the more Jins emotions go rampant in preserving his only spark that fills his torn heart.

Trivia[]

  • Although Jin was playing a major heroic role in protecting Kyun Yoon and was in a horrible bind being under the teachings of a parental serial killer, the many years of serial murders of what Dongsoo got him into and Jin resorting to murdering someone to make as a deal to keep Kyun safe from Dongsoo are enough to make him villainous, as not only does he have tendencies to be a murderous and violent thrill seeking, but even confessed to his mother as a two year that he enjoyed murder.
  • While it never has been confirmed, the term of Jin being called a bastard by his dad may not be just in a profane manner but a literal one, as Jins mother bares resemblance over what Dongsoo likes to painfully kill meaning, and before Jin was born, Dongsoo may have only spared his mother because she was carrying their child.
