Chief of Police João Alemeida, or simply Alemeida, is a supporting antagonist of Fast Five, the fifth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise. He was a chief of the Rio de Janeiro Police under the payroll of Hernan Reyes.
He was portrayed by Joseph Melendez.
Biography[]
Chief Alemeida was one of the few police officers who oversaw Luke Hobbs' arrival when he and his team were dispatched to apprehend Dominic Toretto and his crew. He then approached him and consoled him on why it was necessary to apprehend the two suspects linked to the train attack; Dominic Toretto and Brian O'Conner, with the latter being a former police officer. However, Hobbs told him to stay out of his way since he was aware that he was a corrupt cop, and chose Elena Neves for his mission.
Later, after Dominic and Brian burned a portion of Hernan's money, Hernan ordered his money to be moved to a vault at a police station under his control, where João and the other officers stationed under Hernan's payroll were tasked to guard it. During the vault heist, he informed his superior, his son Dante Reyes, that Brian and Dom were stealing the vault. As he tried to stop it, he was knocked out by Elena, who ordered him to stay down. It is unknown what happened to him, though it can be implied he may have been shot dead by Elena or arrested for corruption.
Personality[]
Joao Alemeida is a corrupt, uncaring police officer working with Hernan Reyes and his crime family. Though while some people would see him as a good person, he is actually bribed by Reyes, working under his payroll to make sure the money doesn't get taken. He also seemingly had a good relationship with Luke Hobbs, though this was brief and feigned as Hobbs told him to stay out of his way as he dismissed him as a corrupt police officer working with the Reyes cartel.
