The real question is how could I not? What would happen without your fertilizer, Clint? Or your pills, Paul? Do you think our community would survive? I did what I had to, to ensure that we would. It wasn't easy... I took the hard decisions on myself. You all remember the winter — how much we lost. Friends. Lovers. Children. I made a promise — I would never let that happen again. The raids were just to keep up us going, 'til Richmond reached sustainability. We’re so close. So close to our dream. Do we really want to risk it all by fighting amongst ourselves? We should be all on the same side of this, David. On Richmond's side. Surely you can see that?
~ Joan about the raids.
I can do anything I want! You brought this on yourself! Do it!
~ Joan foolishly proclaiming she can do what she wants, spitefully ordering who to die at the blame of Javi when it’s her own choice whoever Javier chooses to spare shot dead.

Joan is the main antagonist of Telltale's The Walking Dead: A New Frontier. She is one of the leaders of the New Frontier along with David García, Clinton Barnes, and Paul Lingard. She is also the archenemy of Javier García.

She was voiced by Jayne Taini, who also voiced Hou-Ting from The Legend of Korra.

Personality[]

Joan presents herself as a witty, yet nice and reasonable diplomat who cares deeply for her community and protecting it. However, Joan is revealed to be manipulative, entitled and power hungry, organizing raids in communities, one of which being Prescott. She shows to be completely apathetic to all the bodies she caused, claiming she is only doing this for the best of the community. She is shown herself to not honor her deals, killing either Tripp or Ava if you chose them purely to spite Javi, and claims she can do “whatever she wants” showing her true motives of simple power.

Biography[]

Joan is first seen in the church where she was making a cake and having a comparison with Clint's spinach. She began to have a conversation with Javier, who was David's brother, about the winter where they lost a lot of people.

Max was then brought into the church under Clint and brings up his experience with Javier at the junkyard and what happened to Rufus, either Javier kills him or Clementine has a tree fall on his truck. Javier would either demand for justice of Mariana or remain silent. Despite to the choices, Joan would have Javier and all of the people, besides Eleanor, in the quarantine kicked out of Richmond.

David and Javier would then return to Richmond to confront Joan about the raiding on other communities. Joan tries to lie about the situation. If Max is spared, he will expose to the other leaders that she enforced him, Badger, and Lonnie to raid other communities. Other leaders were left in shock, but Joan manages to get them on her side by bringing up the winter and how it helped the New Frontier. If Max is dead, she would be able to cover up the raids successfully after Lonnie falsely blames David for the situation. David and Javier would then be held captive in a prison. Joan brings David out to "have a talk" with him.

Later on, she would have David hanged publicly in front of the crowd. She quickly notices Javier, Clementine, and Gabe in the crowd. She would then have Javier join her in front of everyone. She would then uncover the people of the New Frontier who were killed and pinning all of the blame on Javier. Ava and Tripp were then sent out to be killed but Joan lets Javier spare one. Whoever Javier picks, they would later on be killed. Clint tries to calm the situation down and handling things peacefully by demanding that Javier and his people should leave. David would then demand Javier to shoot Joan. If Javier shoots Joan, a New Frontier member would kick the stool and have David suffer. If Javier takes Clints deal, Clint would get the noose off of David's neck and hold him hostage. Clint would then free himself from David. Gabe goes to help his father and attack Clint from behind, which then bought David some time to kill Clint. Despite the choices, a battle breaks out and Kate drives the truck into Richmond and crashes into the propane near the wall, which would then have the wall destroyed, leading the walkers into the city.

Despite her treacherous nature, a picture of Joan would be put up on Richmond's memorial wall in the final episode.

If she was spared, her fate is left unknown after Javier saved Richmond.

Death[]

  • Killed by Javier Garcia (determinant): After Javier witnesses the death of either Ava or Tripp (the one that will die will be whoever he chooses to save) by Joan's order, Clint offers to let Javier and his people leave peacefully, while David wants him to shoot Joan. If he chooses to shoot Joan, he will shot her in her eye, killing her instantly. If he chooses to accept Clint's deal, David will kill Clint and Joan will leave, making her status unknown.

Victims[]

  • Mariana Garcia (indirectly caused): Joan ordering Badger and other members of New Frontier to raid communities causes Badger to kill Mariana when he tries to get revenge on Javier for standing up to them when they try to hold him hostage.
  • Francine (indirectly caused): Joan ordering Badger and the New Frontier to raid Prescott causes Badger to kill Francine when she tries to escape as his hostage.
  • Ava (caused, determinant): If Javier chooses to save Ava over Tripp, Joan will order one of her men to kill her.
  • Tripp (caused, determinant): If Javier chooses to save Tripp over Ava, Joan will order one of her men to kill him.
  • A few members of the Kingdom (caused): Joan ordering her men to raid the Kingdom causes a few members of their community to die.
  • Numerous counts of Prescott residents (caused): Joan ordering her men to raid Prescott causes many members of the community to die.
  • Numerous unnamed people (caused or direct)

Trivia[]

  • Despite being the main antagonist, she didn't appear until the third episode, and Badger, being the secondary antagonist, appears in more episodes than Joan. But Joan is still responsible for everything that’s happened in the third season of Telltale’s “The Walking Dead”.
