Jody is a major antagonist of the Preacher comic book series and AMC's television program of the same name.
Along with the omnisexual rapist T.C., he is Marie L'Angelle's chief enforcer who played several key roles in Jesse Custer's abusive childhood, as Jody gladly committed numerous atrocities to harm Jesse on Marie's orders.
In the TV series, he was portrayed by Jeremy Childs.
Biography[]
In the year 1974, when John Custer tried to leave Angelville with his family, Jody executed him with a single bullet to the head right in front of his wife Christina and 5-year-old son Jesse, who Jody then mocks for crying after the fact. When Jesse was 11, Jody killed his pet dog Duke, hammering a nail into his head before pinning his carcass to the fence just for humping his leg. Jesse attacked Jody afterwards while cussing, and as punishment, Marie had Jody lock Jesse in a pitch-black coffin at the bottom of the swamp for a week. During this time, Marie also had Jody drag Christina away to be executed at a nearby dock, but Christina survived by kicking Jody in the balls and jumping into the swamp, where she unfortunately got her left arm bitten off by an alligator.
Soon after Jesse turned 17, T.C. killed his best friend Billy-Bob for accidentally spying on him raping a chicken in the barn, and Jesse beat him up in retaliation. Jesse then fought Jody and lost, with Jody breaking his arm until he screamed "uncle". Jesse went back in the coffin, with Billy-Bob's corpse weighing down on the lid. Jesse quickly left Angelville afterwards, lasting a year or two with his new girlfriend, Tulip O'Hare, before Jody and T.C. found him to bring back home, this time putting him back in the coffin for a month. Jesse somehow managed to get away from Angelville yet again.
Five years later, in the present day, Jody kidnaps Jesse and Tulip after killing several gangsters, threatening to shoot Jesse in the legs and Tulip in the head if they don't come along willingly, even threatening to have Tulip raped by T.C. first. Back at Angelville, on Marie's orders, Jody shoots Tulip in the head right in front of Jesse (although Tulip thankfully gets resurrected by God), causing him to finally snap and go on a murderous rampage and fatally set most of Marie's men on fire with the Word of God. After a long and painful battle with Jody on the front lawn, Jesse finally gains the upper hand and kills Jody, strangling him to death.
