Joe Carter is a fictional character and supporting antagonist of the British Soap Opera Coronation Street. He served as a major antagonist from 2002 to 2003.

He was played by Jonathan Wrather, who also portrayed Pierce Harris in Emmerdale.

At first Joe Carter appeared in Weatherfield as a legitimate entrepreneur who was recruited as the new manager of the Underworld Factory by it's boss Mike Baldwin.

In 2002, Joe seemed to get along well with most of the residents in Weatherfield. He even got his own place after rejecting an offer from financial advisor Richard Hillman to buy one of his flats.

In 2003, however, Joe's ulterior motives are disclosed when it turns out that he secretly plans to con the factory from Mike in a business partnership scam. This initially works to achievement when Mike starts a partnership with Joe, and authorizes one of his machinists Karen Phillips to work alongside Joe on the project. When Karen learns about Joe's plan, though, she agrees to help him out and they nearly succeed until Mike eventually discovers the truth. Karen is forced to reveal Joe's plan to Mike, who in turn sacks Joe. This consequently forces Joe to leave Weatherfield in order to avoid going back to prison, as he had previously served time behind bars due to his reputation as an ex-con.
