Villain Overview

Are you dead Dagon? Let me handle the rest. Let's meet again in the wilderness in a hundred years. The first one (burns Nanami). Second (burns Maki). And third (burns Naobito).
~ Jogo mourning Dagon before defeating Nanami, Maki and Naobito in seconds.
It's a deal.
~ Jogo agreeing Sukuna's challenge.

Jogo is a major antagonist in the manga/anime series Jujutsu Kaisen. He is a special grade Cursed Spirit who, alongside several others of his kind, conspired to bring about the destruction of humanity and the construction of a society where Cursed Spirits like himself will reign supreme.

He attempted to kill Satoru Gojo but was easily defeated, underestimating the strongest sorcerer alive. Despite this, Jogo is considered to be an extraordinarily powerful Cursed Spirit, being able to remotely combust enemies via the use of his innate technique. Ultimately, however, Jogo never saw his dream become reality, as he was defeated and killed by the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna.

Jogo is voiced by Shigeru Chiba in the Japanese version of the anime and by Michael Sorich in the English version. Chiba's other roles include Emperor Pilaf, Raditz, and Garlic Jr. in the Dragon Ball franchise, Yoshihiro Kira in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, Buggy the Clown in One Piece, Sebas Tian in Overlord, and Kefka Palazzo in Dissidia Final Fantasy. Sorich has also voiced Dimple in Mob Psycho 100, Chōza Akimichi and Gamanunta in the Naruto franchise, and Barazō Mankanshoku in Kill la Kill.

Personality[]

Like most of the Unregistered Special Grade Curses, consisting of himself, Hanami, Mahito, and Dagon, Jogo is prideful and arrogant, believing Cursed Spirits are the "true humans." He has a strong belief that all humans should be exterminated and that Cursed Spirits should reign supreme as the sole inhabitants. As such, Jogo looks down on all humans, sorcerers, and thus curse users as well, causing him to underestimate Satoru Gojo, despite being proclaimed the Strongest Sorcerer of the Modern Era. Having been brutally defeated by Gojo, Jogo's pride took a serious hit, and he developed a fear of the strongest, referring to him as "that thing" despite being a Cursed Spirit. Despite hating humans in general, Jogo seems to act decently in the presence of Kenjaku to some extent, likely due to their aligning goals and the Curse User aiding them. He gets pissed off when Satoru declares he is weak.

Holding complete disdain for humans, Jogo has no issue murdering an entire group of them and smiling in the midst of the act. In addition to this, he kept acting arrogant in front of Gojo, whom he believed would not go all out while the "lesser beings" were surrounding him. In witnessing the deaths of his friends Hanami and Dagon, despite having murdered and mocked the deaths of numerous humans as if they were nothing, Jogo displayed a great hatred for the Sorcerers around at the time, showcasing a great deal of hypocrisy.

Despite Jogo's evil nature as a curse, it's made clear that his dedication to the ideal of creating a society of curses is entirely genuine and is in no way self-serving. Jogo is perfectly okay with the idea of him dying if it means that the Disaster Curse's goal is made a reality. He's called out on his idealism by Ryomen Sukuna, as fighting for anything other than a hedonistic love of battle makes you stagnant in Sukuna's eyes. For what it's worth, Jogo's devotion to his ideals is later shown to have at least left an impression on the King of Curses. It's also heavily implied that Jogo's hatred of humans is born out of envy, as they have peaceful lives that he can never experience due to being a curse. Furthermore, he is in no way a coward and is still willing to go up against Gojo even after seeing firsthand just how much of an absolute beast the man is.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Supernatural Prowess: He managed to outran Naobito Zenin despite him being the 2nd Fastest Sorcerer after Satoru Gojo and Kenjaku stated he was as strong as 8-9 Sukuna Fingers.
  • Disaster Flames: Jogo holds intense control over fire and lava, hot enough to combust normal humans with his mere presence and sorcerers with a simple touch. He can spawn miniature volcanoes to take foes by surprise or manipulate waves of magma big enough to flood skyscrapers.
    • Ember Insects: Jogo can summon insectoid creatures from the hole in his head, which rush a target and burst into flames when near them.
    • Coffin of the Iron Mountain: Jogo's domain expansion creates a volcanic environment hot enough to incinerate a sorcerer just by being there. It guarantees any attack he throws will always hit, but after it failed to defeat Gojo, he abstained from using it on Sukuna, even though it would have won their wager.
    • Maximum: Meteor - Jogo's supreme art creates a gigantic, flaming meteor that is slammed into the ground to cause mass destruction. Though Sukuna dodged the attack, he implies that it could have hurt had it been connected.

Trivia[]

  • There was a severe oversight in his plan to exterminate humanity, being that cursed Spirits are born from the cursed energy and negative emotions leaking out of them. As such, if all humans vanished, no more Cursed Spirits would be born, likely resulting in the extinction of curses, which is ironically the end goal of Suguru Geto and Yuki Tsukumo.
  • The 2024 superbowl makes an advertisement by using the fight in the anime between Sukuna and Jogo, showing Jogo's face edited into who appears to be someone from the team of the San Francisco 49ers and Sukuna's as Patrick Mahomes, seemingly to predict and represent which team is going to win the Superbowl.[1]
