Biography[]

Johnny 23, whose real name is John Baca, is one of the convicts on board the plane. A sex offender and serial rapist, he has a tattoo with many flowers on his arm, each representing a count of his conviction, but brags that he raped hundreds more by stating that they can call him Johnny 600. His boasts earn the ire of the other prisoners, as he quickly sets his eyes on Sally Bishop, the plane's only female corrections officer.

When the plane is attacked and the crew is held back, Johnny attempts to rape Bishop for the first time but is stopped by Poe and Cyrus Grissom, the latter threatening to kill him if he allows himself to do such things. Johnny 23 then helps "the Virus" to put his plan into motion. The plan is to get on a plane owned by a drug lord named Cindino and his cartel, then flee to a country that doesn't have an extradition treaty with the United States.

Cindino is waiting for them at a small airport in the Nevada desert. He nevertheless betrays them and abandons them in the desert. Poe blows up Cindino's plane, killing him. Johnny climbs a tower to watch and alerts the others when the authorities come to arrest them. A big shootout ensues and Baca takes the opportunity to have a "good time" with Bishop. Although she tries to fight back, he subdues her and says he will be Johnny 24 when she wakes up. But again, he is beaten by Poe and handcuffed on the plane. The other prisoners are forced to board the plane and flee again.

The authorities manage to regain control of the JailBird thanks to Poe but they are forced to crash-land it in Las Vegas. Seeing Cyrus knocked out by Poe, Baca tries desperately to wake him up to be untied, to not avail. The landing kills Johnny 23 in the process. His body, along with his arm severed, is taken away by the paramedics.

Personality[]

A serial rapist, Johnny 23 is a real danger to women around him. He is convicted of rape on 23 counts, but tells Cyrus he has raped 600 women. Not ashamed at all of this fact, his depravity is shown when he tried to rape Bishop twice. He is shown to be despised by Cyrus, who threatens to kill him if he attempts any sex offense. He also does not like Poe very much because he stopped him from raping Bishop.

Quotes[]

I've got a special spot on my arm just for you.
~ Johnny 23
We've got company!
~ Johnny 23, announcing the arrival of the National Guard and police.
WAKE UP CYRUS!
~ Johnny 23, during the plane crash before his death.

Trivia[]

  • Although it is unknown how Johnny 23 had his arm severed in the crash, it is assumed that it was severed by the plane's propeller, which broke loose and cut through the fuselage, therefore severing it and causing massive blood loss, resulting in his death.
  • In the Unrated Extended Cut of the movie, in addition of trying to rape Bishop, Johnny 23 says he will rape and murder Cameron and all his family after he is finished with her, when Cameron tries to stop him. This implies that Johnny 23 also has homicidal instincts but to a lesser extent.
