John Bailey-Brown is one of the overarching antagonists (alongside Edgar Janssen and Devlin) of Series 1 of the Apple TV+ British drama-thriller miniseries Hijack.

John is the co-leader, alongside Edgar, of the Cheapside Firm, which is an international crime syndicate based in Britain. He also sends hitmen to kill those who cause trouble in their plans. When he is imprisoned, John has Stuart Atterton and his accomplices hijack Flight KA29 to blackmail the U.K government into releasing them. Then, alongside Edgar and Devlin, John orchestrates a bear raid on Kingdom Airlines.

He is portrayed by Ian Burfield, who also played George McGryffin in Endeavour.

Personality

John, just like Edgar, was known to be ruthless amongst those who worked for him. However, compared to Edgar, John definetely seemed to be more sensible. He insisted that instead of reaping the Kingdom bear raid for every penny possible, they close the raid, answer Amanda's pleas, and meet with Devlin, so that law enforcement don't catch up to them. However, when Edgar refuses, John has him killed before he takes off with his henchman to presumably meet with Devlin.

Biography

John is released from prison, alongside Edgar, per the hijackers' demands. However, John is silent for the episode, as all he does is drive per Edgar's instructions, and goes along with him as they trick the police into arresting their decoys.

In the next episode, they are at a shack, and John, being the more sensible of the two, tries to convince Edgar to go with him and meet Devlin in an hour, but Edgar refuses, they're here to make money, not to just pay people off. John starts to get annoyed by Edgar's greed, saying that they need to answer Amanda's pleas and tell her to land the plane so law enforcement doesn't catch up with them, but Edgar tells John to f-ck off, saying that they will lie low until the plane crashes. John, annoyed with Edgar, as his henchman shoot him in the head, and leaves Edgar's lifeless body as he drives off.

Trivia

• Despite the series being finished, John & Devlin have yet to meet their ends. The terrorists and cleaners were arrested, and Edgar was killed by John. However, John & Devlin haven't seem to be apprehended or found in the least.
