~ John and Ray on first seeing Tony. |
John Clayborn and Rasheen Ray are minor antagonists in Season 1 of The Sopranos.

History[]
In a plot set up by Uncle Junior to kill his nephew Tony Soprano, Uncle uses an intermediary Donnie Paduana to hire hitmen known as John Clayborn and Rasheen Ray to try and kill Tony.
While Tony is on his daily schedule, they first spot him buying a newspaper and just as they're about to get out to shoot him, Christopher Moltisanti drives in front of their car while he's also following him. John pretends to be a police officer just trying to park their car and politely asks Christopher if he can move his car, though Christopher doesn't believe him since he isn't wearing a badge and tells him to "get the f*ck out of my face". John returns to his car and considers killing Christopher as well, though Ray suggests just waiting until Tony leaves a donut shop. Unbeknownst to them however, Tony leaves out of the back door and Chris follows him inside, only for all three to find out he's gone.
Later, John and Ray catch up with Tony who spots John in a car window and hurries into his car as John shoots at him. John attempts to kill Tony, but he manages to grab hold of his head and the two fight over the gun until Ray comes over to the other side of the car and accidentally shoots John in the head, killing him instantly. Ray tries getting closer to kill Tony for a second time, though Tony again grabs his attacker's gun and drives off until Ray falls against the pavement, injuring himself in the process. Tony laughs as he thinks he's gotten away without getting hurt, but accidentally crashes his car. Ray is then presumably arrested once the ambulance and police arrive.

Trivia[]
- Tony buying a container of orange juice before his attempted assassination is a direct reference to The Godfather, where Vito Corleone did the same thing before he was nearly killed by Hitmen, the only difference being Tony not getting shot once while Vito took a dozen shots to his back.
