I get such a thrill hustling these dirt-water towns. I mean, who drinks dirt water? Dummies, that's who.
~ Rockerduck.

John D. Rockerduck is a supporting antagonist of the 2017 DuckTales reboot series. He serves as a minor antagonist in Season 2, and a major antagonist in Season 3. He is one of Scrooge McDuck's main business rivals as well as a member of FOWL.

He was voiced by John Hodgman, who also played Soren the Architect in Minecraft: Story Mode.

Personality[]

John D. Rockerduck? He was historically infamous for swindling every town he hit, robbing them of all mineral rights and leaving behind a ghost town.
~ Gyro Gearloose description of Rockerduck.

Rockerduck is an privileged scamming and ruthless businessman. Unlike Scrooge and Glomgold, he is not a cheapskate, but much more a liberal spender, preoccupied with displaying his wealth to other people by shopping for expensive items and living an extraordinarily luxurious lifestyle.

Biography[]

DuckTales[]

He made his first appearance as the main antagonist of "The Outlaw Scrooge McDuck!", where he appears as a wealthy businessman who presents himself as honorable and charitable in public. But in actuality, he is a con artist who swindles small towns into giving their town deeds over to him with a false hope of saving their town's low awareness and bringing in better profits. In most cases his schemes have not only brought him personal wealth, but have also brought the downfall of numerous small towns, leading them all to become ghost towns. In the present, after the events of "Moonvasion!", Rockerduck is revealed to still be alive and a member of the nefarious F.O.W.L. organization. His body is cryogenically frozen in an ice cube which is moved around by his reanimated servant Jeeves, who is also revealed to be alive with enhancements attached to him for unknown reasons.

Rockerduck and his franken butler would return in "The Forbidden Fountain of the Foreverglades!", his iced state serving as his own means of retaining his vitality in a similar, yet flawed manner, as opposed to Scrooge and Goldie's longevity through effort. The process had failed since the old world tycoon aged rather rapidly after coming out of stasis. Seeking a means of regaining his youth, John D. would instead tail his two business rivals to the The Fountain of the Foreverglades in hopes of beating them to a first drink from its life rejuvenating waters, a plan geared towards revenge for the gold heist the two pulled on him a hundred years ago. While they would initially discover that the fountain had been drained of its water, he would then tail Scrooge and Goldie back to the Conquistador Inn where they confronted Ponce De Leon about how he was utilizing the water. During the ensuing battle, Rockerduck manages to get Jeeves to get his hand on a small container of the youth water and pour it down his throat, restoring his youth and vitality. However, later on, Goldie would force a large amount of the water down Jeeves' throat, turning him into a baby and forcing Rockerduck to retreat with him in tow.

After this, Rockerduck doesn't appear again until the series finale, "The Last Adventure!". He is present with the rest of F.O.W.L. when the Duck family attempts to raid their main base, at which point they retreat to their other primary base of operations, the Great Library of Alexandria. After this, he is mostly seen taking care of Jeeves, who is still a baby. Later on though, he manages to turn Jeeves back to normal when the Duck family arrive there to rescue Webby and Huey, who have been taken hostage along with a number of other people they know who are connected to adventure, and he has him fight Scrooge, Della and Donald. While at first Jeeves has the upper hand, he ultimately gets defeated when Mrs. Beakley arrives in disguise, after which a shocked and horrified Rockerduck retreats.

Ultimately, Bradford Buzzard, the head of F.O.W.L., is defeated by Scrooge, his family and the rest of his allies, and It's unknown what happened to John D. Rockerduck and the remaining F.O.W.L. agents after that since the organization was presumably disbanded.

Trivia[]

  • John D. Rockerduck is one of the few characters in the reboot to have been created by Carl Barks and appeared in his comics, but did not previously appear on the original 1987 DuckTales series (although he did appear in at least one comic story based on the 1987 series).
  • John D. Rockerduck's name is a play-on of American philanthropist John D. Rockefeller who was considered a "Robber Baron" for buying out all the other oil rivalries in North America.
  • John D. Rockerduck taste buds were singed because of his cryogenic frozen state.
  • Rockerduck likely allied with Bradford because their goals were similar; profit and control. Even if it means sharing, Rockerduck could see the benefit of FOWL ruling the world.
  • It's unknown what happened to Rockerduck and the rest of the FOWL agents after Bradford's defeat.
