John Knight is the secondary antagonist of the Chicago P.D. episode "Friends and Family".
He was portrayed by Connor Weill.
Background[]
He has several priors for petty crimes, such as robbery and possession. At some point, he got a job as a personal trainer at a gym, where he met and formed an affair with Cara Miller and the two were careful to hide this from her husband. Knight fell for her and believed she would leave her husband, have him pay alimony, and they could be together. However, Cara would end the affair to stay with her family, leading Knight to become upset.
Friends and Family[]
While still upset, Knight's roommate Ed Lucas convinced him that he was owed profit from being led on and used by Cara. Lucas told Knight that he has a plan to kidnap Cara and force her husband to pay them, leading to a good pay day and Knight agreed, thinking nobody would get hurt in the process. The two abducted Cara from the building's parking garage, where she and her daughters were about to leave.
They tied them up and sent a picture of the family to Cara's husband Gregory, demanding money or they would die. Knight realized that he was in over his head by Lucas cutting off a finger to show they were serious. Unbeknownst to them, Gregory was able to gather some of the money but ended up dying in a car accident. Intelligence would later find out about the ransom.
When they didn't receive cash from Gregory, Lucas would shoot Cara in the stomach, recorded it and then would send it to Gregery's phone. Lucas would then give a location, Breezewood Park and told Gregory to give them the cash there or else they would kill the kids. However, it was the intelligence unit who watched the recording, and they would go along with the plan to catch those criminals.
Adam Ruzek, would pretend to be Gregory as Lucas would give him directions on where to put the money. Ruzek would ask to see the two girls and Lucas shows him them, both huddled together in fear.
The drop would be made. Lucas and Knight would drive in a van and would take the cash. However, they would also toss the bag which had a tracker in it. They would drive away with Officers Kiana Cook and Kim Burgess on hot pursuit. A call would then be made to Ruzek, and which Lucas would give him an address of were the kids where. Voight would go to that address but didn't find the kids there. At that point he realized that the crocks knew that the police were on to them and so Voight tells his team to take them now.
Burgess and Cook would crash into the van and pretend to be angry civilians. Ruzek would then get out of his car and walked behind them. However, Lucas notices and would get out of the van and attempted to kill Ruzek. Ruzek would shot Lucas in the chest, killing him while Knight was taken out of the van and cuffed by Cook. Burgess would then open the van, but the two girls were not inside.
Taken to the district, Intelligence discovered his history and connection to Cara, as well as what led to the abduction. In interrogation, he was interviewed by Officer Kiana Cook who showed him pictures of the dead Cara. Knight was uneasy but Cook pressed him for answers by bringing up how Knight sought riches, but his pipe dream ended with his arrest and told him that the only thing to look forward to would be prison. She vowed to ensure that he suffers there for his role in double child murder, as Knight begins to crack. Cook then asks where the children are, with a frantic Knight breaking down and implicates Lucas for everything that happened but is reminded because he is dead that he will take all the heat. Scrambling, Knight continues to shift fault on Lucas, stating things weren't supposed to be like this but Cook finally gets him to answer where the kids are, and he reveals they are at the house of Lucas' cousin. As Cook goes to run the lead, a scared Knight was left pleading before breaking down. The Miller children are found and rescued.
Knight is ultimately incarcerated for kidnapping and two counts of murder.
