Joji Kirishima is the mysterious leader of the BAD organization and the main antagonist of Robot Detective.
He initially kept his identity a secret, appearing as a spinning swirl pattern to talk to his clients. It was eventually revealed however that he is in fact the younger brother of K's creator, "Mother", who repurposed her robot designs to use for violence and criminal activity.
He is voiced and portrayed by Kiyoshi Kawakubo.
Biography[]
Joji was the son of Professor Kirishima, a renowned expert in the field of robotics, and hoped to follow in his father's footsteps one day. After his father was killed by criminals however, Joji became disillusioned with the world and founded the BAD organization to make a profit off of crime, creating killer robots to loan to various criminal activities in exchange for a cut of the profits, soon building up a formidable reputation for his organization in the criminal underworld. In response to her brother's criminal operations, his older sister Saori built the Robot Detective K based upon the blueprints her father left behind, along with the colossal Mother robot, to use to stop him.
BAD's first encounter with K would come when he interfered with their deal with Yukio Kuroda to recover the 1 billion yen he had stolen years ago. Despite this, the BAD Leader would not confront K personally until the incident with Lockerman, in which BAD lured K to one of their hideouts and trapped him in a special room. There, the BAD Leader first revealed himself, though keeping his identity hidden behind a spinning swirl, and summoned Springman to deal with K. However, K managed to escape the room and reunite with the other detectives before destroying Springman.
BAD would later have one of their agents lure Detectives Shiba and Shinzo into a trap by having one of their agents go undercover and lure the two detectives to an abandoned Japanese Army island fort which BAD had converted into one of its secret hideouts. There, the BAD Leader would reveal himself to the two Detectives, appearing as a silhouette behind a screen of lights. After K arrived to rescue the Detectives and they all escaped the island, the leader ordered the hideout self-destructed. Saori would also reveal to K, sometime around this point, that the leader of BAD was none other than her younger brother Joji.
In the finale, Joji hatched a scheme to take over the world by turning water into gasoline to turn the world into a scorched wasteland, while he flew into space on his rocket and waited before returning to rule over what remained. He abducted Shiba and his two daughters before taking off in his rocket (which was disguised as a lighthouse), but was pursued into space by K and Saori in Mother. Saori tried one last time to reach out to her brother, but Joji ignored her, while K vowed to defeat him.
After both ships landed on Mars, K fought BAD's strongest robot Haguruman and defeated him. Seeing the error of his ways, Haguruman went to take Joji down as one last act of redemption, dying with him in the exploding BAD rocket. As Joji perished, his sister Saori wept for him.
