Oh, Batman, you knew as usual. Always playing your cards close to the vest. You can't do that, though, when one of those cards is the Joker.
~ The Joker to Batman.

The Joker is a supporting antagonist in the 2003 action-adventure game Batman: Dark Tomorrow. He is an insane clown-like psychopath and criminal who aided Ra's Al Ghul in his plot to take over the world.

The Joker was voiced by Allen Enlow.

Biography[]

At some point in the past, the Joker shot and paralyzed Barbara Gordon, which caused her to retire from her superhero career as Batgirl and be confined to a wheelchair. However, the Joker's attack backfired when Barbara, despite the loss of her legs, decided to use her technological skills to continue aiding her partner Batman in fighting crime, becoming a hacker and computer genius known as Oracle.

As part of Ra's Al Ghul's plot to flood Earth as a means to achieve world domination, the Joker aided him in his scheme by kidnapping Commissioner Gordon and hold him hostage at Arkham Asylum, which has been overrun by the many inmates imprisoned in the facility, so as to distract Batman long enough for Ra's to continue his goals without intervention. Upon learning from Oracle that her father had vanished, Batman began searching for him. In the Commisioner's office, he found a deck of cards with no Joker cards, allowing him and Oracle to realize the Joker is behind Gordon's 'disappearance'.

Batman headed to Arkham to rescue the commissioner but was forced to find another way inside, due to the facility being put on full lockdown, as a result of a turf war between Blackmask and Scarface. While traveling through the sewers and into Arkham, Batman has to fight off several villains from his rogues gallery to get to Commissioner Gordon. After defeating Victor Zsaz, Batman suddenly hears eerie piano music and upon going through a secret hatch, he finds himself in a cell row of Arkham, where he found the Joker playing on a organ repertoire on the top floor.

During the confrontation, he reveals Commisioner Gordon, whom he tied to a chair before forcing Batman to play one of his games, which involves fighting off all the inmates that have been released. After defeating and subduing them all, Batman immediately demands Joker on the whereabouts of Ra's Al Ghul, having correctly deduced that he is working with him, but Joker pressed a button his cane that caused his organ to reveal a screen which Ra's Al Ghul appears on. As the latter congratulates Batman for his progress, Joker tries to slip away but Batman senses this and punches him in the face, knocking him out.

After Ra's Al Ghul declares that his plan is nearing completion, Batman grabs the now-unconscious Joker by the leg as the pipe organ self-destructs before using his grappling hook to prevent them both from hitting the ground below. After Commisioner Gordon was freed from his bonds, he asks Batman on where the Joker is but Batman assures that he has been taken care of, and reveals a still-unconscious Joker mumbling while slumped in the same chair Gordon was strapped to. After Batman left to hunt down Ra's Al Ghul, Joker was possibly re-imprisoned in Arkham.

Trivia[]

  • The Joker is only the supervillain to not be directly fought in-game.
