The Joker is a minor character in the 2022 action role-playing game Gotham Knights. He is a psychopathic and monstrous criminal, the arch-enemy of Batman, and the abusive ex-boyfriend of Harley Quinn.
Biography[]
Not much is really known about the Joker, nor his past. While rarely mentioned throughout the game, he is only vaguely referenced and mentioned by several characters and in e-mails, log entries, and biographies. At an unknown point, during a confrontation, he paralyzed Barbara Gordon/Batgirl when he shot her in the groin, causing her to lose her legs and being confined to a wheelchair. However, despite having to retire from her superhero career, she became a computer hacker known as Oracle, in which she gain access to every computer system in Gotham City to continue fighting crime and aiding her allies.
During his confinement in Arkham Asylum, Joker was interviewed by psychiatrist Dr. Harleen Quinzel, who fell in love with him after many interviews., and she helped him escape, becoming his sidekick known as Harley Quinn, in the hopes of winning his love. Though the Joker had an abusive relationship with her, she helped her 'puddin' out in his many plans.
During Jason Todd's tenure as Batman's protege known as Robin, Joker blew up a school. Knowing that Batman will not kill him, due to strictly following his moral code, Jason, then sixteen, recklessly took matters into his own hands and was captured as a result and the Joker tortured him to death with a crowbar, even recording it for Batman to watch. Having witnessed his protege's torture, he blamed himself for Jason's death. Jason's body was found by the League of Shadows and was brought to the Lazarus Pit where he was successfully revived albeit amnesiac and now darker in personality, with a bitter hatred of his killer, though Batman was able to bring him back to his senses and made things right.
Following Batman's death, what became of the Joker or if he's dead is unknown as of the present. It's possibly that with his archenemy gone and no longer able to stop him, he might have the lost will to commit crime. Though Blackgate Penitentiary is the only functioning prison in Gotham City following the closure of Arkham Asylum due to critical structural flaws, Joker is noticeably absent from the prison, which may suggest that he is not imprisoned as of now and is still at large.
