The Joker is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Lex Luthor) of the LEGO DC Universe. He is the archenemy of Batman, much like every incarnation of the character.
His vocal effects were provided by Steve Blum in LEGO Batman: The Videogame, while he is voiced by Christopher Corey Smith in LEGO Batman 2, LEGO Batman 3, and LEGO Dimensions, before being replaced by Mark Hamill in LEGO DC Super Villains. The Joker was also voiced by John DiMaggio in LEGO DC Super Heroes: Batman Be-Leaguered and LEGO DC Super Heroes: Justice League - Attack of the Legion of Doom, and Jason Spisak in LEGO DC Super Heroes: Justice League - Gotham City Breakout and The Flash.
Biography[]
LEGO Batman: The Video Game[]
The Joker, along with the Riddler and the Penguin busted out of Arkham Asylum with each having a team to help them.
Joker's team involved the Mad Hatter, Killer Moth, Scarecrow and Harley Quinn. Joker went to ally himself with them to possibly look for a way to improve his Joker's gas or to bring more chaos to Gotham.
Both he and Harley would later fight against Batman and Robin in an old church, but he was defeated and was sent back to Arkham.
LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes[]
The Joker disrupted Gotham's Man of the Year Award and his henchmen and fellow villains began robbing the guests of all their money and precious valuables. When Joker gives out his hand to Lex Luthor but the latter refused, as he believed that he'll be joy-buzzed but the Joker reveals that he wants his watch. Lex gives it to him, and the Joker suggests that they do it again sometime, to which Lex responded, "Oh we will". Joker then gives out to speech until he is interrupted by Batman who bursts into the theatre with Robin, much to his anger. Joker then blew a raspberry at the duo and goads them to come and catch him. He, the Riddler, the Penguin, and Two-Face then escape through a trapdoor in the stage while Harley Quinn stays behind. After Batman and Robin defeated her, the Riddler and Two-Face, they re-encountered with the Joker and a fight ensues. As the latter is riding on top of a projector, Batman was able to automatically make it crash into a wall. Joker was then knocked out of the theatre, but this allowed him to escape on his speedboat, much to Batman's dismay.
Joker, instead of escaping immediately, just stopped to watch as Robin got into his helicopter to go after the Joker with Batman clinging onto the helicopter's rope-ladder. Unfortunately, one of the Joker's goons uses a big spotlight to blind Robin, which caused his helicopter to crash, leaving it partially damaged and unable to fly, forcing Batman and Robin to look for parts so that they could fix it. Once this was accomplished, Joker immediately flees. However, the duo managed to catch up with him. When Batman declares that they had come to return the valuables that had been stolen, with Robin even adding Bruce Wayne's man of the year award, Joker insists that it is his award and places a sticker on it that says, "Me Joker!" as proof, but Robin saw through it. Though Joker tried to different ways to stop Batman and Robin he was ultimately unsuccessful. The chase then leads to Gotham Funland where Batman was able to forcefully make Joker's speedboat come ashore. Another fight ensues in which Joker was subdued. He was then arrested and taken to Arkham Asylum.
Later, while in his cell, Joker rudely interrupted a Daily Planet newsreel by Clark Kent by destroying the TV a security guard was watching. He then mocked him by saying that watching too much tv is bad for him before calling him a pumpkin. A few seconds later, he suddenly hears a voice, who offers him an alliance, but Joker believed that it is one of the voices inside his head. However, the mysterious voice turned out to be Lex Luthor, who. broke open Joker's cell with a deconstructor, a device that can destroy black objects. Lex then reveals to Joker the reason behind on the alliance; he needs Joker's help to replace the deconstructor's power source, since it relied on Kryptonite, which acts as batteries. He urges him to help him so that he may use it to his heart's content before further revealing that he needs some of his gas to help him become president.
When Arkham's security alarm went off, Joker, before escaping on a chopper with Lex, uses the deconstructor to free Catwoman and Two-Face. As Joker and Lex escape, the former uses it again to break open the cells of Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, and the Riddler. He also shoots one more shot, freeing Bane off-screen. While Batman and Robin were dealing with the villains at Arkham Asylum, Joker and Lex broke into ACE Chemicals. Later, on a ride in Lex's juggernaut van, Joker begins making kryptonite. Upon getting it out of a big mixer, he jokes to Lex that it's a "boy". He was then alerted of Batman and Robin, which the juggernaut detected. When the dynamic duo broke into the vehicle, Joker and Lex revealed themselves, but Batman easily took them down with a batarang. Joker then forces them out by using his Joker buzzer on them. When the latter rammed his bat mobile into the Juggernaut van, this provoked Joker into deconstructing bat mobile. He then mockingly waves at Batman as the Juggernaut leaves. When Batman and Robin returned to the bat cave with the kryptonite they had retrieved, they failed to realize sooner that it is actually a fake.
As the fake kryptonite is also a homing device, this allowed Joker and Lex to track it to Wayne Manor, which is where the bat cave is located. This reveals that the two had set Batman and Robin up so that they can break in and steal Batman's supply of kryptonite, which is what they are after for. Upon breaking in, Joker and Lex proceeded to destroy everything they lay eyes on, including Batman's other vehicles. Joker then uses the deconstructor to send a giant penny, one of Batman's trophies, after the latter and Robin, forcing them to retreat to an elevator. Before they could fully escape, Joker tries to forcefully bring the elevator down. This proves to be a mistake as this caused the elevator to come crashing down which caused the Joker to be knocked back. While Lex tries to get Batman's AI computer to reveal the kryptonite, Joker has fun in throwing explosive custard pies everywhere. When Lex grew frustrated with the computer, Joker uses his buzzer to disable its security system. Once Batman's kryptonite supply is revealed, Joker began gathering all the kryptonite he could get. When a concerned Lex asks him on how much time do they have left before the pies detonated, Joker assures that they have about five minutes. As he continues to get more kryptonite, some of the pies unexpectedly exploded and Joker admits that they have five seconds before yelling at Lex to run.
As the rest of the pies continued to set off, Joker and Lex hastily retreated into the Juggernaut before they were picked up by Lex's VTOL. Inside the safeness of the vehicle, Joker and Lex then see a flaming image of Joker's face in the ruined bat cave right after the ground on top of it collapsed. When Joker spots Wayne Manor, Lex expresses his strong hatred for Bruce Wayne. When Batman and Superman, as Robin stayed behind, broke into the VTOL, Joker and Lex were shocked at their unexpected arrival. Joker immediately opens a trapdoor that sends Batman falling out of the VTOL. Though he believed himself to be triumphant of getting rid of both him and Superman, he was left baffled when the latter didn't fall, as he can fly. When Superman realized that Batman is not in the VTOL anymore, he flies out to rescue him, allowing Lex and Joker to escape. When the two arrived in Lex's headquarters, LexCorp, they began construction on a giant robot which resembles the Joker in both image and likeness. Once construction was complete, they immediately boarded it to wait for Batman and Superman.
As expected, the two superheroes did arrive. Joker watches at Lex easily subdues both Superman and Batman. Lex then reveals his plot of using Joker's gas to make himself president of the US before using the joker robot's massive supply of kryptonite to weaken Superman, causing the Kryptonian superhero to fall unconsciousness. When Lex tells Batman that he won't be there at Gotham City Hall, which is the first stop of his presidential campaign, Joker asks him on what he is going to do to him, but Lex brushes it off. This caused the Joker to realize that Lex is going to kill Batman and he childishly expresses concern on who he would "play" with once Batman is dead. Lex assures him that Robin is still around and that if Batman is eliminated then Robin would put on the bat suit and say that he is Batman, but this didn't cheer Joker up, who states that it wouldn't be the same if Robin is Batman before Lex supposedly kills Batman with a big block of metal, to Joker's dismay. Just as the Joker-bot is about go out of a big door, which is slowly opening up, an impatient Joker decided to make the robot leave through the roof, which caused the Joker Robot to burst through LexCorp's roof causing the VTOL to be knocked to the ground below. Horrified, Lex asks him "Joker do you know how expensive that was?! and Joker indifferently responds that he has no idea at how much it costs. Controlling the Joker Robot, he and Lex then flew off to Gotham City to begin the campaign. As they believed that Batman and Superman were taken care of, however, they were unaware that the two superheroes had switched their superhero suits.
A while later, when the Joker Robot detects Batman and Superman, Joker remained in the controls as Lex tries to stop the duo. Afterr Batman disables one of the robot's thrusters, Joker alerted Lex that they are losing altitude. A moment later, they crash-landed in Gotham, but they recovered after a while. After they unleashed gas onto a crowd which sent them fleeing, Batman immediately gets their attention but Joker and Lex, through the Joker Robot, immediately, but seemingly crushed them with a hammer fist. However, the two heroes survived and fought their way through Gotham City's subway while at the same time fended off the Joker Robot. After arriving at Gotham City Hall, Joker uses his influencing gas to make the crowd of people vote for Lex.
Before Joker and Lex could move on to their next stop, Batman and Superman arrived to stop them once again. After they disabled the robot's acid-spraying flower, Superman, who has regained some of his strength, breaks a hole into the Joker robot's chest, which contains a large amount of kryptonite, which weakens Superman a second time. Joker, having had enough, attempted to kill Batman by pulling him apart using the robot's de-constructor cannon but was stopped by Robin, who arrived in a multicolored version of the bat mobile, which the latter used to ricochet the cannon's energy blast back at the Joker Robot, knocking it down in the process.
Joker proceeded to chase down both Batman and Robin all throughout Gotham City. Catching up to the Dynamic Duo after a long chase, Joker sadistically asks Batman if he has any last words, to which the dark knight replied that he is on TV. When Joker saw his kryptonite face on a big screen, he naively comments that it's beautiful, which caused him to be hit in the face by an angry Lex Luthor, who reveals to him that it's also visible from space. It turns out, Batman and Robin had tricked the Joker into making an image of his face that is large enough for the alien superhero Martian manhunter to spot from his space station and he immediately alerts the other members of the Justice League, which are only Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, and Cyborg, excluding Aquaman.
When Joker asks Lex on what he wants to do, the latter only tells him that he despises bruce Wayne. This caused the Joker to immediately head straight for Wayne Tower, the headquarters of Wayne Industries. The Joker Robot then used its de-constructor cannon to make the building topple and Superman immediately goes to stop it from falling to the ground, though he appears to greatly struggle, due to still being weak and having not fully regained his strength. Fortunately, Wonder Woman arrived to help. When Joker and Lex Luthor began climbing Wayne Tower, this made the situation more difficult because of its weight and size. While climbing up the skyscraper, the Joker Robot caused major damage to several parts of Wayne Tower.
After scaling up to the top, the Joker Robot engaged in a brief standoff with Batman, Robin, Green Lantern, and Cyborg before being knocked off Wayne Tower by Green Lantern. During the fall, Joker engages in a short fight but was defeated. After the Justice League destroyed the robot, as well as its head, Joker immediately pops out, complaining that they are always ruining his fun. In a final battle, Joker was ultimately defeated for a final time and was knocked out unconscious. As the Justice League tried to battle Lex Luthor and his power armor, the unconscious Joker continues to lie on the ground until after Lex is defeated. After having regained consciousness, he remarks saying Well...that was fun. When Commissioner Gordon and the GCPD arrive, Lex and the Joker were immediately arrested and placed in a police van.
LEGO Batman: The Movie - DC Super Heroes Unite[]
The Joker makes a return in the 2013 direct-to-video film of Lego Batman 2, once again as one of the main antagonists alongside Lex Luthor. However, unlike in the game the scenes where Joker appeared in were given changes and additional dialogue. Moreover, additional scenes were also added which shows more on what Joker did than in the game.
Scenes in the movie[]
- Originally in the game, in Joker's interrupting entry in the Man of the Year Awards, Joker himself is shown prancing in the street before clenching his right hand which causes a building to explode leaving it damaged. In the film version, Joker is shown to instead throw several blueprints all around before pressing a button on his detonator, but when he realizes the bombs that he planted are not detonating, he frustratingly pressed on his detonator several times before the bombs finally exploded (off-screen), which destroyed the wall of a library. For the bank heist scene in the entry, Joker is shown to be using a cart to carry all the money he stole before zooming off. This was changed in the movie, in which he is shown to now drag the bags containing the loot.
- For the scene in which Joker pops out of the stage from a trapdoor, in the game he knocks out the announcer of the Man of the Year Award with an explosion before revealing himself. This was changed in the direct-to film in which she jumps back when Joker pops out from the trapdoor.
- In the game, after Batman makes a sarcastic apology to Joker wiping out his face on the screen and Joker angrily stating that he isn't sorry at all, the latter would then blow a raspberry at Batman and Robin before goading them to come catch him and escaping through the same trapdoor. However, in the direct-to film, Joker would remain onstage and began robbing what he can while his fellow villains deal with Batman before immediately escaping on his joker boat.
- The chase between Joker and the Dynamic Duo was shortened in the direct-to-video and the Joker didn't even tried to fend them off. The battle at Gotham Funland was also shortened where Joker tried to destroy Batman and his batwing using different weapons, which are the same he used in the LEGO Batman 2 game, only for Batman to activate the batwing's impenetrable armor.
- While Joker and Lex's break-in at ACE Chemicals took place off-screen in the game, it was featured in the direct-to-video. While in the processing plant, Joker acts like he is "shopping with Lexy" before an impatient Lex Luthor asks him if they could speed things along. Joker would then throw down veils with different colored chemicals to Lex, forcing him to catch every single one. After getting a cartload of purple and green colored chemicals Joker begins to leave ACE Chemicals with Lex. However, at the last moment, he suddenly gets an idea by spilling all of the chemicals he had on the cart all over the inside the facility. After Lex calls out to him, Joker, while setting the last of the chemicals, claims that he is an "artist" and that he likes to challenge himself with a "bigger canvas". This was confirmed as when Batman and Robin investigated Joker and Lex's break-in, the unstable chemicals began to explode and destroy the inside of the facility. Eventually, the chemicals reveal a burning, but colorful, face of the Joker, revealing the Clown Prince of Crime's artistic (but chaotic) trait as well as revealing ACE Chemicals as his chosen "canvas".
- While in Lex's juggernaut, much of the Joker's production on the Kryptonite is revealed in the direct-to-video; he makes the chemical mixture in a similar way to cooking while at the same time (but terribly) singing John Hughes 1844 traditional American song Buffalo Gals. After finishing, he pours it into a mixer and the scenes that come next along with the dialogue are faithful to the game. However, in the game, this was set during Batman and Robin's chase of the Juggernaut all over Gotham. But in the direct-to-video, Joker's creation of the Kryptonite took place much early during the Dynamic Duo's investigation at ACE Chemicals.
LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham[]
In this game Joker, Lex Luthor and the Legion of Doom team up with the Justice League to stop Brainiac from shrinking Earth. Joker becomes nicer after being hit with a beam of love, increasing his feelings of love towards those around him.
LEGO Dimensions[]
The Joker was one of the villains that went to help Lord Vortech in his plans to control the LEGO worlds. He went to fight against Batman, Wyldstyle and Gandalf in Springfield's powerplant using the second Keystone, but was defeated and lost the artefact. He was also present during Lord Vortech's scalding, and was one of the three to grab hold of the three heroes, he however left.
Both he and Harley Quinn are also playable characters, offering their aid in various puzzles.
LEGO DC Super-Villains[]
The Joker acts as one of the many mentors to the Rookie, so that they could defeat the Crime Syndicate. Joker, Harley, Lex, the Rookie and other villains then teamed up with the Justice League to stop Darkseid.
