~ The Joker to Batman. |
The Joker is the titular main antagonist of the 1991 run and gun game Batman: Return of the Joker and its 1992 remake Revenge of the Joker. Based on his mainstream counterpart, he is a clown-like criminal and psychopath who is the archenemy of Batman.
Biography[]
Having somehow escaped from Arkham Asylum, the Joker marks his return where he stole from the Gotham mines metals containing a highly toxic composition meant to build explosives for missiles. Though the GCPD attempted to stop the Joker from accomplishing his latest scheme, they failed in the end. Having exhausted all of their resources, they were left with no choice but to call Batman for help.
To stop the Joker's scheme, he has to follow the Clown Prince of Crime's trail to his secret hideout while at the same time fight off his henchmen, whom he encountered along the way. Batman eventually confronted the Joker and a battle ensued, with Joker fighting his adversary from a UFO-like vehicle, but was defeated and he was forced to retreat. When Batman reached the hideout, which is on an remote island somewhere in the ocean, he engaged in a final battle with Joker, who now sought to defeat Batman while piloting a giant robot, but is once again defeated.
In the original version of the game, after being defeated, the Joker will fall to the ground and was presumably taken by Batman in his batwing, as the entire island was destroyed in a massive explosion. In the remake, the Joker was seemingly killed when his robot exploded, while in the unreleased Super NES version of the remake, according to a narration, Batman locked him away where he would never terrorize Gotham ever again, allowing the citizens of the city to sleep peacefully. Unfortunately, Joker managed to escape, leaving his whereabouts unknown.
