Damian Wayne: I... I'm so sorry...

Joker II: Sniff...Sniff... It's so sad. You're tugging at my heart-strings...
Damian Wayne: It is you!
Joker II: No! I'm not that guy! No one has seen hide nor hair of the original Joker in years! Probably went to the Henny Youngman home for Retired Jokesters... .. or something like that. He was admired! We surely miss him! You can call me... ...The Joker! I know. Not very original. But catchy. I ask you... doesn't Bruce Wayne look ravishing? We're going to make you look like his TWIN!

~ Joker II to Damian Wayne during their first encounter.

Joker II is a major antagonist of the DC comic miniseries Damian: Son of Batman. He is a fanatical fan of the original Joker who took on the persona after the latter retired from villainy. He was responsible for making the Joker return from retirement, as the latter believed that there could only be one Joker in the world.

Appearance[]

Joker II resembles that of the original Joker, having chalk-white skin, bright green hai, and his mouth sports extended bright-red lips with sharp teeth. His clothes are similar to the Joker's but are dirt-stained and patched-up.

Biography[]

Sometime after the Joker retired, due to Bruce Wayne also retiring from his vigilante career as Batman, an unnamed follower of the Joker decided to continue the Clown Prince of Crime's legacy by "succeeding" him as the new Joker dubbed "Joker II" and became the leader of a group of followers mostly consisting of anthropomorphic animals. Father James Gordon, the former commissioner of the GCPD and now a priest, warns Damian Wayne, the new Batman, of the "Joker" being at large, unaware that it is an impostor.

After burying Alfred Pennyworth, who had died after exerting all of his energy to tend to Damian's wounds, Damian goes to Bruce Wayne for help in tracking down the Joker only to find him missing. Upon finding a Joker-themed playing card in Bruce's room, and as it depicts a jester holding a fishing rod with an ugly-looking fish attached to it, Damian heads to Gotham's harbor and finds his father beaten, bloodied, and dying in a warehouse.

Joker II then reveals himself and Damian mistakes him for the original Joker but the former reveals that no one has seen the real Joker in years, correctly assuming he has retired but nevertheless tells the vigilante that he can call him "The Joker". He then has his followers kill Damian to prevent him from rescuing his father, but even though they outnumbered him, they were all defeated in a chaotic. bloody fight.

Seeing his enemy lying on the floor defeated and himself untouched, Joker II comments that he and Damian had something in common; dressing up like their predecessors to live up to their legacy, and reveals that he seeks to kill Bruce Wayne so he could be respected amongst the criminal community. Unwilling to let that happen, Damian brutally attacks Joker II until he is left a bloody pulp. Weakened and left crumpled on the floor, Joker II wheezes that he'll only serve time, regardless of his wounds, and will always return, arrogantly declaring that he can never be put down.

As he laughs madly, an enraged Damian cuts it shorts by violently tearing his gut open supposedly killing him before freeing Bruce and leaving the warehouse. As they left, Joker II surprisingly regains consciousness and expressed joy of surviving until he was shot in the head point-black by the real Joker, who had decided to come out of retirement and return to crime.

Trivia[]

  • While assuming that the original Joker had retired from crime, Joker II referenced the late British comedian Henny Youngman, who is famously known for his one-liner jokes.
