Jolene is a major antagonist in the 2007 action-adventure game The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass.

She is a sailor and the ex-girlfriend of Captain Linebeck, who travels the World of the Ocean King to exact revenge on her former lover.

History

Backstory

In her younger years, Jolene was a sailor who was attacked by a sea monster. A young man named Linebeck accidentally crashed his ship into the sea monster, inadvertently saving her life. The two fell in love and explored the ocean together for years, until Linebeck unexpectedly abandoned her and stole some of her treasure.

After that day, Jolene began to dress up as a pirate and sail across the World of the Ocean King, seeking revenge against Linebeck.

Phantom Hourglass

Jolene eventually tracks down the S.S. Linebeck and assaults it with torpedoes, as Linebeck informs Link that Jolene is "crazy" and obsessed with him. Jolene boards the ship and duels Link, believing the hero to be protecting Linebeck, while Linebeck cowers in a nearby crate. Upon defeat, Jolene vows to settle the score in the future.

Jolene battles Link several times throughout the game, before sending him a letter requesting a final duel. After losing for the final time, Jolene voices respect for Link and his quest to defeat Bellum, noting how it reminds her of Linebeck when she first met him. She then reveals that she has known Linebeck was hiding in the crate the whole time, and leaves, remarking Linebeck could "learn something" from Link's courage.
