He is a perverted cult member who, when the cult's ritual of freezing people then reviving them failed to satiate his attraction to frozen bodies, began killing people who were attempting to leave the cult by freezing them to death in his own walk-in freezer.
He was portrayed by Ptolemy Slocum.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Little is known about Jon's childhood other than the camping trip him and his parents went on. During this camping trip, the family got lost and when temperatures went below freezing, it is unknown what measures they resorted to to stay alive, but according to SSA Derek Morgan it was "godawful". This molded Jon into a perverted psychopath with a fetish for frozen people. In order to satisfy these desires he joined a Nevada cult called "The Forever People" run by a psychopathic man named Colton Grant. One of the key initiation practices of the cult was freezing people in a walk-in freezer and then reviving them. This satiated Jon for a while, but it soon wasn't enough for him any longer. This caused him to begin tracking down cult members attempting to leave and freezing them to death in his own walk-in freezer located at his residence.
The Forever People[]
Jon is first seen, unbeknowst to the viewer, entering his walk-in freezer where he is seen holding Adam Lewis captive. Jon waves a blow torch in front of his face to determine if he is still alive, which wakes him up. Against Adam's pleading, Jon cuts off his restraints, places him on the ground and freezes him to death with a fire extingisher.
Jon is then seen watching over the children as Colton's lawyer gives a message to the cult community. When he leaves with them to go back to the children's home, Carl Mason, the father of one of the children and the former partner of one of the ex-cult members Kanak killed, enters the house and asks one of the children where his son is, Jon knocks him out and takes him to his walk-in freezer where he plans to freeze him to death.
The BAU, having gotten Jon's address sends Jennifer Jareau over to his house to rescue Carl and arrest Jon. Against their recommendation to wait for backup she enters the house and finds Jon and Carl in his walk-in freezer. In order to prevent her from shooting him, Jon says that the acetylene gas he has coming out of his blow torch will ignite the room if she fires or he uses his lighter to ignite it. However, JJ realizes that at the temperature Jon mentioned (-18 degrees Farenheit) the flashpoint of the gas wouldn't ignite, allowing her to take the shot and shoot Jon in the chest. The paramedics are able to save Jon and Carl in time, with Jon being imprisoned after his recovery.
Trivia[]
- Kanak is partly inspired by Peter Tobin, a Scottish serial killer taking refuge at a religious sect while on the run for raping and murdering girls.
