There's nothing like it, is there? The rush of bringing someone back from death? It's like being God!
~ Greenaway reveling in his power over his patients

Jonah Greenway is a recurring villain in the fifth season of the TV series 9-1-1. He is an emergency medical technician who is secretly a serial killer, subjecting his patients to drug overdoses so he can feel a rush of power in deciding whether or not to revive them.

He is portrayed by Bryce Durfee as an adult, and by Lucas Dean Royalty as a child.

Early life[]

When Greenway was 13 years old, he was on the bus writing his drawings and was teased by his peers because of his morbid art. However, he saved a school bus driver who had a heart attack while driving him and his classmates to school. He was hailed as a hero by his town's local newspaper, and his classmates, who had previously bullied and ostracized him, treated him with a newfound respect. Jonah was praised and basked in his good fortune ever since.

He decided to become an emergency medical technician when he grew up - not because he wanted to help people, but because he was addicted to the attention. Jonah continued to receive praise for from saving the bus driver and the feeling of godlike power he experienced from literally holding someone's life in his hands.

He worked as a paramedic in Chicago, secretly and purposely overdosing several patients on Propofol until they went into cardiac arrest and then resuscitating them. Eventually, however, he got sloppy, and two patients died. He transferred to different fire departments in several states, including Miami, Dallas, and Denver, "accidentally" killing several patients along the way. He eventually found a job as a paramedic at the Los Angeles Fire Department, in Station House 118 as a temporary replacement for EMT Howard Han.

In 9-1-1[]

Greenway is assigned to work with paramedic Henrietta "Hen" Wilson, who sarcastically nicknames him "Monday" because she is assigned a new partner nearly every week. Eventually, however, he wins her over with his sly charm and his professions of hero worship. He also endears himself to Wilson's fellow firefighters but is ultimately transferred to another station house when Han returns from medical leave.

Greenway's homicidal urges eventually return, when a fire at dispatch office erupts, causing 9-1-1 operator Claudette Collins to pass out from smoke inhalation; he overdoses her with Propofol, but fails to resuscitate her and she dies. Wilson and Han investigate Greenway's past, they learn of several other patients who died on his watch, as well as the bus driver incident, and fear that he is murdering his patients. Han reports him to the police, who open an investigation.

When Greenway learns that Wilson and Han reported him, he kidnaps them both. He overdoses Han with Propofol, and repeatedly resuscitates him when his pulse flatlines, only to overdose him again. Wilson begs him to stop and condemns him as a murderer, but Greenway rants that bringing someone back from death makes him feel like God, and that the patients who died were merely "mistakes." When Han regains consciousness, however, he stuns the distracted Greenaway with his own defibrillator, momentarily knocking him unconscious. Police officers Bobby Nash and Athena Grant-Nash arrive on the scene and arrest Greenway, though not before Bobby attacks him for his actions until he is grabbed. Greenway is then imprisoned for life.
