Jonah Tyler is a fictional character and supporting antagonist in the British soap opera EastEnders. He appeared as a supporting antagonist in 1998 and one of the two main antagonists of 2022.

In his characterisation, Jonah is an infamous crime boss and a rival of Phil Mitchell in the organized-crime of Walford. They briefly clashed when Jonah sought to eliminate Phil and his business partner Annie Palmer in their protection racket, but failed in the end. However, he resurfaced in 2022 and is plotting to destroy Phil's family empire by turning his sister Sam against the Mitchells.

The character is portrayed by Mark Mooney.

Biography

Jonah Tyler is a powerful and ruthess figure in the criminal underworld of Walford, a fictional borough in East London. He first arrived at Walford's market town, Albert Square, in 1998 to get involved in a protection racket operation with the square's criminal kingpin Phil Mitchell and his business partner Annie Palmer. This goes well until Jonah's efforts to expand control leads to him kidnapping Phil and Annie, both of whom he plans to kill. However, Phil escapes with help from his future stepfather Frank Butcher and they rescue Annie while the police are called; Jonah and his gang are arrested in the end.

Over two decades later in 2022, Jonah returns to the square to plan on taking down Phil and his family empire for good. He finds himself having to deal with Phil's sister, Sam, after finding out that her brother is currently in police custody facing a potential life imprisonment for his criminal activities. This involves attempting to acquire the nightclub, only for Phil's girlfriend Kat Slater and former wife Sharon Watts to undercut Jonah's bid to win ownership of the club - which they name "Peggy's" after Phil and Sam's late mother Peggy Mitchell. It is later revealed that Sam is secrectly in cahoots with Jonah and his plan to eliminate Phil.
