Joo Dan Tae is the main antagonist of the South Korean television drama series The Penthouse:War of Life. He is the very wealthy Chairman of JKING Holdings or Cheong-A Group, one of the most biggest construction companies in Asia. He is the Ex husband turned archenemy of Shim Su Ryeon. He is the father of Joo Seok Kyung and Joo Seok Hoon, both of whom are students at Cheong-A High School, which is a Soprano school. He is portrayed by South Korean actor Um Ki-joon, who also played Sim Jun-seok in Escape Of the Seven, Park Jae Sang in Little Women and Min Ho Cha Innocent Defendant.
Personality and Traits[]
Joo Dan-Tae is a wealthy and a prideful businessman who is extremely proud of his wealth and power, and as such, tends to look down on those below him. He is stated to be an extremely evil man, and is responsible for most miseries suffered by his former compatriots.
Though he appears to be quite respectable outwardly, this is just a facade. In actuality, he has no loyalty towards others, and is willing to sacrifice everyone close to him just for the sake of money. As the owner of JKING Holdings, he is a ruthless investor who seeks to only rake in money for his own benefit.
However, his personality was largely influenced by the horrors he saw during his past. In his childhood years, his parents and his family were killed due to a bulldozer owned by SIMWOON Construction Group, which would eventually be owned by Sim Su-ryeon in the future. Due to living in poverty and being bullied by others, he started to despise the injustice he suffered and swore to become a highly rich man.
Though he remains calm in most situations, once he is enraged, he will use honorifics instead.
The only thing that can completely shake him or put him off-guard is blood. Once he sees blood, he becomes extremely unreasonable and insane to the point he becomes dangerous to anyone near him. This is due to a post-traumatic stress disorder that always reminds him of his mother's demise.
Biography[]
Joo Dan Tae actual birth name is Baek Jun Ki, he lived with his mother and sister and were poor and lived homeless on the street. One night, a construction company, owned by Shim's father, boldozed their house (or dwelling) on his mother and sister killing them, this made him the person that he became as his mom's dying wish was for him to make as much Money as he could. As time went forward he is still homeless and asking for change on the streets. In his 20s, he followed Mr. and Mrs Joo and their son (who was later named Baek Jun Ki) to Japan and killed both Mr. and Mrs Joo took all their wealth. He attempted to kill The son but he escaped and ended up in a mental institution as Baek took the son's identity, Joo Dan Tae, and fled back to Korea. He eventually builds his own company JKING Holdings or Cheong-A Group, and his family living in The Hera Palace, where the wealthy elite people live. He lived withhis wife Shim Su Ryeon and children Joo Seok Hoon and Joo Seok Kyung. He had terrorists kill Shim Su Ryeon's first Husband in America to be with her. He switched her newborn baby Min Seol A with another one by his first wife, by the bame of Hye In; making Shim Su Ryeon believe Hye In is her birth daughter. He even tried to kill Hye In a couple times. He abused Joo Seok Kyung and Joo Seok Hoon. This turned Joo Seok Kyung into the biggest bully at Cheong-A High School. He cheated on Shim Su-Ryeon and had an affair with neighbor Cheon Seojin (whom he soon becomes abusive towards and forces to marry). When Min Seol A finds out about the affair he and Cheon Seojin locks her in machine room of Hera Palace and tightly and Painfully ty her to chair and ducktape her mouth. Min Seol A manages to escape Machine room, and is killed by a drunk Oh Yoon Hee. When the residents find her body; Joo Dan Tae leads the group of parents there to cover up the murder by taking her body to her apartment and starting a fire, making it look like a suicide. He accidentally kills his childhood friend Na Ae Gyo, thinking it was Shim Su Ryeon. He's even tried to kill Bae Ro Na, Oh Yoon-hee's daughter, so that Joo Seok Kyung could have a beeter shot at being top of the class.He and the other parents are eventually arrest for their crimes. Joo Dan Tae esapes prison, and attempts to kill Logan Lee, Min Seol A's brother and one of the people responsible for taking him down, by putting on a disguise and bombing his car. He has Ms Jin kidnap Ha Eun Byul and brought to his place. When Oh Yoon Hee chases them, he tries to run Ha Eun Byul and Oh Yoon-hee of a cliff with his car. He was usually physically and verbally abusive towards his secretary Jo for his mistakes. Once he becomes a wanted fugitive in Korea, he has Secretary Jo (before killing him for trying to call police) attan bombs and attempted to blow up the Hera Palace with him in it, risking the lives of hundreds of people. While he is shot in the head and killed by Shim Su Ryeon in an attempt to stop him, he still manages to successfully blow up abd detonate the Hera Palace, luckily nobody was hurt.
