Joonwoo Choi is the main protagonist of the Random Chat webtoon. He is a teenage high school student who starts off as a lonely outcast and uses Random Chat to escape his pain, where he ends up chatting with Seungah Yoon and tries to get close to her in real life. Over time, Joonwoo becomes heroic and stops multiple bullies/criminals, however, in the process he goes insane and becomes a morally grey hypocrite who resorts to extreme methods as a vigilante.
Personality[]
At the start of the series, Joonwoo is an insecure and lonely outcast which stemmed from a result of being bullied after an incident in middle school. He seeks any form of human connection and eventually resorts to using Random Chat to communicate online, where he ends up being paired with Seungah Yoon and becomes infatuated with her.
Joonwoo starts out heroic and constantly throws himself in constant danger to stop bullying and violence. He will often defend his close friends or people he makes attachments with, even if he had nothing to gain or they do not want his help.
He starts to become corrupted over time as a result of repeated bullying over time. He develops a black and white view of society and begins to refuse anybody he views as "evil" can ever redeem themselves, thinking they deserve to be punished by him.
This is first shown when he becomes vengeful towards Seungah for accusing him of being a sexual predator. While his anger towards her is justifiable, he ends up allying with a group of thugs to incriminate and ruin Seungah's life and takes sadism in seeing her life get ruined. This reaches the point where he encourages her to commit suicide. He temporarily revokes these traits however when his girlfriend brings him to his senses.
He loves his girlfriend, Ha Min. However, at times his obsession with her borders on unhealthy levels to the point he will hurt himself without her. He becomes envious of any guy who approaches her and eventually reaches the point where he becomes envious of her past boyfriend, Jayu (who looks exactly like him and is in a wheelchair.) He even becomes obsessed with hunting him down due to believing he "stole his girlfriend." When Ha Min confronts him about his obsessive behaviour, he refuses to accept responsibility for his behavior and says it's her fault he did this for not telling him everything about Jayu.
After his break-up with Ha Min, he resorts to becoming a vigilante once more again however and starts to become obsessed with striking down anybody he views as a thug. This reaches the point where he breaks the legs of the guy who broke Jayu's legs to make him suffer, even though he has tried to redeem himself and felt immense guilt for this action, while also apologizing to Joonwoo and wanting to be reasonable.
