Jorus C'baoth is the main antagonist of theStar Wars: Legends novel Outbound Flight.
Biography[]
C'baoth was born about 70 years before the Battle of Yavin in the city of Reithcas on the planet Bortras. He was discovered to be force sensitive as a very young child by the Jedi Order, who took him to the temple on Coruscant where he underwent initial training as a Jedi. He was not selected to be a padawan but did not get shifted into one of the service corps as others who were not selected were. At the age of 17 C'baoth added to his education by starting a course of study at Mirnic University. Upon graduation from Mirnic University, he trained for another two years at the Jedi training center on Kamparas. He became a Jedi Knight by 42 BBY.
Over the next several years he participated in several missions, such as the Ando Demilitarization and settling the Alderaan Ascendancy Crisis in favor of Bail Organa's father. He then became the Jedi advisor to Senator Sheev Palpatine for several years. After defeating a darksider in the Elrood Sector he promoted himself to the rank of Jedi Master, which the council allowed to stand given his performance as a Knight.
C'baoth had a full head of hair and a beard. At the time of the Alderaan mission he kept his hair short and neatly trimmed but later allowed both to grow out. His hair and beard began changing color early on in life, and by the time he was in his early 40s his hair was completely white.
C'baoth was a highly arrogant man who caused considerable controversy within the Jedi order. Some Jedi saw C'baoth as the epitome of a Jedi. Others felt he was way too arrogant for his own good. He was a Jedi supremacist, believing that Force sensitivity made the Jedi superior to non-Force sensitive life forms, and the Jedi had the right to rule such life as a result. C'Baoth's relationship with his apprentice Lorana Jinzler was unusually tense due to his Jedi supremacist attitudes. However he was one of the few Jedi Masters who held Anakin Skywalker - the future Darth Vader - in high regard, who in turn regarded him quite highly as well.
In 29 BBY C'baoth became the biggest proponent of the Outbound Flight project, wanting to lead an expedition outside the galaxy. When the ships in the Outbound Flight fleet were launched, C'baoth was one of six Jedi masters onboard. His arrogant behavior led to much resentment among the non-Force sensitive colonists who joined the project in search of a better life, especially when he began kidnapping their Force sensitive children.
After crossing into Chiss space and meeting the Chiss Admiral Thrawn C'baoth refused to leave Chiss space and began fighting the Chiss forces. Thrawn managed to kill almost all the other Jedi onboard Outbound Flight. Giving in to his anger Thrawn began to choke Thrawn through the Force. However, Kinman Doriana saved Thrawn's life by activating programming in Thrawn's vulture droids which caused them to blast open C'baoth's ship, then deployed a radiation bomb that killed C'baoth and nearly everyone else on Outbound Flight.
Legacy[]
Using a cell sample taken before C'baoth had provided prior to leaving on Outbound Flight, Palpatine later cloned C'baoth with the intent that this clone would serve as the guardian of the Emperor's storehouse on Wayland. This clone shared many of the attitudes that the original C'baoth did, but additionally had clone madness due to the method used to clone him. This clone became exceptionally dangerous until he was stopped by Luke Skywalker and his friends.
A colony was later discovered consisting of the survivors of the Outbound Flight in 22 ABY. Because of C'baoth's behavior towards the end, the colonists mistrusted and hated the Jedi.
