“ | You don't understand power, Grand Admiral Thrawn. Conquering worlds you'll never even visit isn't power. Neither is destroying ships and people and rebellions you haven't looked at face-to-face. | „ |

~ C'baoth |
Joruus C'baoth is the secondary antagonist of the 1991-1993 novel series The Thrawn Trilogy. He is a Dark Jedi and the insane clone of the long-deceased Jedi Master Jorus C'baoth. He was created by Emperor Palpatine to serve as the Guardian of the Imperial storehouse at Mount Tantiss on Wayland.
History[]
C'baoth was created from cell samples taken from the original C'baoth before Outbound Flight departed on its mission to leave the galaxy. Unlike the clones from the Galactic Republic's Grand Army, who were created by the Kamino the C'baoth clone was grown in a Spaarti cloning cylinder. Unlike Kamino clones, which exited the cylinders as infants and then raised to maturity over ten years, Spaarti clones were grown to maturity in a year or less. Also unlike Kamino clones the Spaarti clones received their knowledge through flash imprinting rather than training programs like the Kamino used. This and a resonance created in the Force resulted in many Spaarti clones falling victim to clone madness. C'baoth was no exception, and fell victim to the clone madness as well. With his Jedi abilities intact, this made for a particularly dangerous combination.
After being cloned Palpatine sent him to Wayland to act as the guardian of Mount Tantiss. In 9 ABY, Grand Admiral Thrawn discovered the existence of the storehouse and traveled to Wayland. He succeeded in recruiting the Dark Jedi to join him in his campaign to destroy the New Republic, making good use of his battle meditation powers. C'baoth also attempted to lure Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa Solo to the dark side of the Force as part of a plan to seize the Empire for himself. However, as his plan entered its final stages, Thrawn had C'baoth imprisoned in Mount Tantiss, having finally realized the threat the insane Jedi posed to the Empire. By then C'baoth was able to not only take control of other living beings, but was able to replace sections of his victims' minds with ones of his own making. After taking control of the Imperials left to guard him on Wayland, C'baoth was confronted by New Republic forces including Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa-Solo, and the Force-sensitive smuggler Mara Jade. Skywalker and Jade both dueled with C'baoth, and Jade managed to kill the mad clone.
Trivia[]
- Originally Timothy Zahn intended C'baoth to be a mad clone of Obi-Wan Kenobi that had survived the Clone Wars. However Lucasfilm objected to that premise, so Zahn created the character of Jorus C'baoth and his clone Joruus C'baoth as a replacement.
