Biography[]
Background[]
José Castillo was born in Yara to unnamed parents, with one being related to Antón Castillo, but which parent was related to him is unknown. Not much is known about José's past, but he was presumably raised by his parents while Antón worked forced labor due to Gabriel being usurped by the Legends of '67. After Antón became president of Yara, José was given command of the FND's air force, and was also given control over the Madrugada region to enslave Yarans have them produce Viviro. It's unknown if José joined the FND previously to earn the rank, but he showed skills in piloting. Due to his title and status, José developed a narcissistic and sadistic personality, believing himself superior to others due to being true Yaran royalty. He also became known for his torture expertise, and enjoyed committing the act so much that he would keep recordings of them.
During this time, José tried to earn Antón's favor, but failed as his uncle was focused on raising his son Diego to become his next heir. He became jealous of Diego due to the treatment his cosuin received over him, and became infuriated that Diego got a highway named after him. José became a deeply hated leader in the region, with citizens giving him the nickname "Napoleón le Pequeño" ("Little Napoleon"), and his uncle and cousin disliked him due to his arrogant personality. While trying to earn his uncle's favor, José was put against Familia Montero, who rebeled against Antón's regime since they were opressing their land. José would manage to fight against the Monteros and succeed in capturing its head Carlos and Miguel Delgado, and sent them to the Gabriel Castillo public school that was turned into a prison. He would torture the two in an attempt to break them, but only succeed in breaking Miguel due to Carlos being rescued by his daughter Camila.
Far Cry 6[]
Around this time, the FND worked with Carlos' son Alejandro, who decided to leave his family and work for the science division since he believed in Antón's vision. On his private island, José promoted Alejandro after nedlessly killing one of his soldiers, but he was being watched by Camili and Dani Rojas, a member of Libertrad trying to gain the trust of the Monteros. During this time, Castillo planned on killing the Montero family to gain his uncle's favor, and had his mole Miguel give him information after the latter was rescued by Rojas and Carlos from prison. Planning to publically execute rebels at Verdera's town square, once he learned of Carlos' plan to rescue the rebels from Miguel, he decided to place Alejandro there. During the incident, José indirectly succeeds in causing the death of Carlos, who sacrifced himself to save Alejandro as Miguel was later killed by Camilia for his betrayal.
Afterward, José meets with his uncle and cousin at their private firing range, where he revels in his success in killing Carlos and hurting the rebels in the region. However, Antón explains to his nephew that his plan was flawed, as Carlos was a beloved man who's family roots were greatly tied to the farmlands. He also explains that the farmers and members of the FND would leave the faction due to his death, thus making Carlos a martyr. Castillo then orders his nephew to run since he shot Diego's last bird, and his cousin manages to hit him with a pellet, impressing Antón. Despite receiving a warning from his uncle, José continued to run the slave trade until it was hurt by Rojas and Familia Montero, who burned down the tobacco fields to reach his air base.
Realizing that the rebels were planning to kill him, Castillo attacks Rojas and the rebels in his helicopter, but it's shot down quickly by Dani. He is then confronted by Camilia and Rojas at his crashed helicopter, where he threatens that they would be killed before offering money to Dani to betray the Monteros. José is killed when Camilia places a grenade in his mouth and pulls the pin, causing his head to explode. His corpse was later found by the FND and a funeral was head at the San Pablo church in Esperanza, where it was only attended by Antón and Diego, with his uncle only attending so he could explain to his son of José's failures.
Alternate Ending[]
If Dani decides to leave Yara for Miami, José presumably remains in control over Madrugada as Diego becomes the next president of the country.
