Joseph Campbell is one of the main antagonist in The General's Daughter. He was a lieutenant General who was retiring from the army and becomes a running mate as Vice President for the presidential candidate. Campbell had nothing to do with her daughter's murder, Captain Elisabeth Campbell. Even though William Kent killed her, but her father let her die in the hands of Kent. Elisabeth Campbell was the perfect daughter, she was highly intelligent, super athlete and a hard worker. She was valedictorian in high school, she was top of her class in West Point. After she graduated, she worked her way up to Captain in Psychological Operations. We found out his daughter was raped in West Point in her sophomore year their. She was gang raped in one of training exercises, they couldn't I.D. the rapist. Campbell wanted to look for them, but cover up with the crime with head of West Point that would ruin any chances of any woman who enters west point and the school's reputation. Campbell lied to her daughter and make her forget about this incident while he visited her in the hospital. Elisabeth held a huge grudge against her father. Their was something about her perfect daughter, she was a manizer and slept with a lot of guys in the army base. All of the males are nearly married or dating someone else. None of them, could kill Elisabeth and sex act her revenge against her father. Even though these guys could get thrown out of the army or ruin their marriage or their relationships. Elisabeth reenact the cover up at West Point, that her father ignored. She wanted him to admit it and apologize for not doing anything, he told her no and left her hanging. First Sergeant / CW4 Paul Brenner, U.S. Army CID and CW2 Sarah Sunhill, U.S. Army CID were investigating Elisabeth murder and figure out what happened. They found the rapist who raped Elisabeth in West Point. They are going to jail, with the minimum sentence of 20 years. After Campbell left, Colonel William Kent that no one suspect, was their when Elisabeth died and she was going to spill the beans about her father's cover up and she is going to tell his wife and kids about their affair. But Kent killed her, Brenner and Sunhill figure out that Kent was the killer, Kent killed himself and Elisabeth had justice. After the murder case was over, Brenner is going to bring up charges against Campbell for the cover up and her betrayal. Campbell was court martialed and kicked out of the army and lose his political ambition. He was never seen again in disgrace.
