Ioseb Besarionis dze Jughashvili better known as Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin or just Stalin who was based on the same figure who served as the Premier of the Soviet Union from 1941-1953 and as General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1922-1952. He served as the overarching antagonist in the alternate history comic book of Superman by Mark Millar, Superman: Red Son, and its 2022 direct-to-video animated adaptation.
Presumably similar to Stalin to our reality, he was born in the town of Gori, Georgia of the Russian Empire. He was raised in a family of cobblers and was taught to be Russian Orthodox which inspired him to study Theological Seminary in Tiflis so he could someday become a priest. His father, Besarion Jughashvili, was very abusive towards him due to his habit of drinking which could caused his attitude later in power. Stalin later became rebellious in his teenage years, following a life of petty crimes which led him to fail his classes and lose interest in his prior desires to become a priest. Stalin later became involved with the Russian Revolution, having light workloads giving him time to aid the revolution.
On May Day/Labour Day, he forces his coworkers to take strike action leading to become an infamous figurehead during the revolution. He invades arrest and strives for donations from supporters of his cause and friends. This caught the attention of Lenin's Russian Social Democratic Labour Party, becoming one of their leaders. He became close to Lenin as he was elected as General Secretary during Lenin's reign, although Lenin had serval trust issues with Stalin, viewing Stalin unfit for major political power. Stalin used his power as Secretary to his advantage after Lenin's death, promoting his friends to higher positions and killing off rivals to his status to make him popular in his party and later on becoming the central leader of the Soviet Communist Party. Becoming a hero in World War II after the defeat of the Nazis but was considered to be untrustable by his foreign Allies causing a Cold War.
Superman: Red Son[]
Superman: Red Son, takes place after the event of the second world war and during the early parts of the Cold War. After the discovery of Superman, he took Superman under his supervision. This would lead to Superman's former loved ones being sent to the gulags for knowing of his powers before Stalin. In the eye of the public, Joesph Stalin has become a father figure towards Superman, presumably suggesting completely his biological children of their lack of power. Once Lois Lane with the help of her husband, Lex Luthor, exposes the truth of the gulags to Superman. Superman confronted Stalin about his crimes towards the soviet people, which he exclaims is for the greater good leading Superman to kill him with his laserbeams.
Superman would take on the mantle of dictator of life after the death of Stalin. Although, Stalin is dead throughout the story. He still has an effect on Superman with his distrust of the USA and tyrannical decision. Batman blames Stalin and Superman for the death of his parents, vowing revenge on the Soviet Government, and becoming a terrorist.
