Joseph Stalin is the titular overarching antagonist of the 2017 political satire film The Death of Stalin.
He is the former leader of the Soviet Union, ruling the state with a brutal regime and executing those who are not loyal to him. Despite only appears in the first few minutes of the film, his death is what drove the plot, including Lavrentiy Beria taking over the country for his own agenda.
He was portrayed by Adrian McLoughlin.
Biography[]
As the leader of Soviet Union, Stalin is the one responsible for the creation of the prison camps that hundreds of thousands have been sent to, tortured and eventually murdered. Stalin regularly lists out individuals to be purged, along with their innocent families, and allows his partner Lavrentiy Beria to do so with impunity. The film starts with him ordering Radio Moscow to record the live recital at the orchestra, while hosting the Central Committee. Maria Yudina, an pianist at the orchestra, hides an note at Stalin's office, expressing her hope for his death. When the record arrives at Stalin's office, he finds the note, and he laughs after reading it. However, he suddenly dies from stroke.
Stalin was found next day by his maid, and Beria was called to investigate. Beria secretly stole the documents from him, and planned to take his place after his death. Stalin briefly came back by terminal lucidity before dying for real.
