Juan Ryness is a minor antagonist in the second season of ShowTime's series Dexter.
He was portrayed by two unaccredited actors.
Biography[]
Ryness was a pimp and drug dealer who was investigated by Miami Metro Homicide detective Harry Morgan. During the investigation, he is implied to have murdered Harry's partner, Davey Sanchez, but walked free because of a technicality. Harry was angry, but was forced to let him go.
However, Ryness was arrested again after beating one of his prostitutes to death. Harry arrested him, but had to let him go again because of a faulty arrest warrant. Because Ryness had got away with murder twice now, Harry gave his adopted son, budding serial killer Dexter Morgan, "permission" to go after him. Unfortunately, Harry walked into the garage one day to find Dexter dismembering Ryness on the table. Unable to handle the reality of what he trained his son to do, Harry killed himself.

- Juan Ryness was actually portrayed by two entirely different unknown men. They both looked very similar, but it's clear once you see both actors that they are different people. Juan's second actor appeared in Dexter's dream of him.
- Juan Ryness spawned Dexter's hatred of cop killers since his adoptive father Harry Morgan was also a police officer. He nearly killed Carlos Guerrero after he sent Norberto Cervantes to murder an undercover cop without preparing a kill room and he eagerly killed Viktor Baskov for killing Detective Mike Anderson.
