You know what's missing?
~ Bert
What?
~ Judy
You!
~ Bert professing his love for Judy.

Judalah is a supporting antagonist of Voltes V: Legacy. She was portrayed by Crystal Paras.

She is Boazanian spy sent to Camp Big Falcon by Prince Zardoz. Along the way, she unintentionally seduces Bert "Big Bert" Armstrong.

While Judalah has no counterpart in the original 1977 Voltes V anime, her character draws some elements from the character of Mr. Sakabe, a hornless Boazanian slave from episode 14, who was forced to be a spy by Heinel in exchange for his daughter, Rumi's, freedom.

History[]

Judalah was born a hornless Boazanian. At some point, she was offered the opportunity to spy for Camp Big Falcon by Prince Zardoz, and took it.

Judalah stares at Zardoz with defiance

While undercover, she changed her name from "Judalah" to "Judy" to blend in with the humans. As she spent more time in Camp Big Falcon, she began feeling drawn to humans and began having doubts about her mission, especially her interactions with Bert. However, it is then revealed that Prince Zardoz has her sister hostage, and she has to choose between working for him or abandoning her captive sister.

After spending time with humans, Judalah comes to have a sense of belonging and empathy towards them. Judalah gives Zardoz fake names of the pilots to protect them, which does not satisfy him as she is not giving him enough information. Judalah plays dumb in front of Zardoz and Zandra the next time she is recalled back to their ship and told to reveal identifying information about the pilots, frustrating both of them.

Eventually Judalah rebels against Zardoz and attempts to assassinate him. However, Zandra protects Zardoz by generating deflective shields. Judalah uses Zuhl as a shield against Zandra's attacks, but Zandra shoots anyway and Zuhl ends up being shot in the groin. Zandra manages to wound Judalah, but Judalah uses her stolen blaster to shoot the door and temporarily lock it. Judalah has a wrist device that allows her to be teleported to the Boazanian base where she delivers her report to Prince Zardoz of her findings on Earth and uses this to get away from Zandra.

When Steve Armstrong searches Judalah in her house, he knocks a Boazanian soldier off before a group of Boazanian soldiers tries to shoot him. However, Judalah shows up and shoots the Boazanian soldiers to save Steve before she uses the gas grenade to evade from incoming Boazanian soldiers.

While being wounded, Judalah tells Steve the truth about the Boazanians where the horned ones are considered normal citizens while her hornless kind are treated as slaves, as well as the invasion forces is headed by Prince Zardoz. While Steve brings Judalah into hiding, she knocks him unconscious using a rock before she goes into hiding.

After few months of her disappearance, Judalah eventually joins the Boazanian rebel forces lead by Hrothgar, or known as Dr. Ned Armstrong and she helps the rebels resisting the Boazanian forces led by Prince Zardoz. After the destruction of the Beast Fighter Suneizer, the Armstrong brothers have finally seen their father Hrothgar, while Judalah covers herself with veil in order to hide herself from Big Bert until Oslak's personal flying disc caught Hrothgar's group, which includes Judalah. They were sent to Zuhl's fortress, which has taken over by Baron Zander. However Hrothgar uses a high-pitched sound device to disorient Zander, Oslak and other horned Boazanians, with the exception of Judalah, Garth and Obgen and other rebels due to a vaccine that is immune to the high-pitched sound, in order to escape from Zander's lair. However Hrothgar tells his fellow rebels to escape afar in order to "surrender" himself to Oslak and Zander instead. Meanwhile at the Boazanian underground base, Judalah's sister Amira, along with the Boazanian slaves, is finally rescued by Mark and Little Jon. The younger Armstrong brings them outside for safety and he calls the rescue team from Camp Big Falcon to extract the remaining Boazanian slaves.

After the combination of Solar Bird and Camp Big Falcon into Solar Falcon, Judalah still covers her face to hide from Big Bert, who was talking with Commander Garth and Obgen. Fortunately, she finally reunites with her younger sister Amira during the travel to Planet Boazan.

Judalah and her sister joins the battle with the combined forces of Boazanian rebels and Camp Big Falcon against Emperor Zambojil's forces. After the destruction of Godor, Big Bert shoots the remaining Zambojil's soldiers until he encounters Judalah, much to his shock and joy, as the lovers have finally reunited.

After the reign of Zambojil has ended and the coronation of Hrothgar as the new emperor of Boazan, Judalah eventually joins with the Camp Big Falcon on their way back to Earth and she finally ends up with Big Bert.

Judy and Big Bert

Big Bert[]

When Judalah (using the alias "Judy") infiltrated the camp, she caught the attention of "Big Bert" Armstrong. He saved her from two men who were harassing her, crushing them completely with his skill in martial arts. Afterwards, the two became friends, though Bert viewed her as more than a friend.

Later, they visit an island and bond together. He tries to kiss her but she looks away before he can.

Judy is then seen teleporting to Zardoz's ship and informing him of what she knows. He is not amused by the lack of information.

Bert and Judy's relationship earns the disapproval of Steve, who believes that Bert should spend his time training to prepare for the Boazanian beast fighters rather than with her. Eventually Bert has enough of Steve's berating and hands his letter of resignation to Dr. Smith. Judy is shocked and disagrees with Bert's resignation.

When Zardoz and Zandra press Judy for information about the Voltes team, she gives them fake names that she overheard from a radio broadcast, Jordan Hues (Europe), Andrew Chambers (America), Hiro Nagasaki (Japan), Ezekiel Sumera (Japan) and Cassidy Lapay (Philippines). Zandra and Zardoz demand for mire identifying information, such as their appearances.

Dr. Smith proves to Bert that Judy is Boazanian - Boazanians, both horned and hornless, have higher heat signatures than humans, and his scanner shows that Judy clearly has a higher signature, meaning she's Boazanian. Bert is shocked and heartbroken upon hearing this.

Judalah finally decides to rebel against Zardoz and his forces. She tries to shoot Zardoz before escaping his ship.

Skills/equipment[]

  • Recording: Her necklace records footage of what she sees in Camp Big Falcon.
  • Teleporation: Her wrist device allows her to teleport.

Trivia[]

  • Before it was confirmed that Judy was Zardoz's spy, a popular fan theory was that it was Eva (Steve's ex-girlfriend) or Apable (who shot Steve due to his personal dislike of him).
  • There are many hints that Judy is the spy:
    • She didn't know where Camp Big Falcon was (due to being from Boazania).
    • She didn't know who was in charge of Camp Big Falcon.
    • She didn't know who the pilots of the Voltes team were.
    • In the credits, she is credited under "Judalah", her Boazanian name.
  • Judy's storyline may be a reference to Marlene Rii. In the original draft for the 1977 Voltes V anime, Kenichi was to develop a romance with a hornless Boazanian woman named Marlene Rii, and she was Katherine's younger sister.
  • Due to Judy being a spy, a meme in the Voltes V: Legacy fandom began where people would liken Judy being an Imposter, and the hashtag #V5LegacyBoazanianAmongUs began trending to refer to the show's episodes with Judy in them.
