Cain Marko, better known as Juggernaut, is a supporting antagonist in X-Men: The Animated Series. He is the stepbrother of Professor Charles Xavier, having nothing but hatred for him ever since they first met.

He was voiced by the late Rick Bennett.

Biography[]

Cain was the only son of Dr. Kurt Marko, who married Sharon Xavier solely for her wealth as he never really cared for her or her son Charles. He enjoyed taking his rage out on Charles via bullying (even shaming him in front of all his friends for being a "mutie") because his father preferred him over his own son, whom he abused and even sent to boarding school as punishment. Eventually while Cain was in the military, he found the Tablet and Ruby of Cyttorak and was given superhuman abilities, thus becoming the unstoppable Juggernaut.

Juggernaut first appears in the season 1 episode "The Unstoppable Juggernaut", where he demolishes the X-Mansion and indirectly frames the mutant Colossus for it before robbing a bank. The X-Men defeat him, Rogue's touch giving him temporary amnesia after she takes off his helmet with help from Storm and Colossus. His second appearance is during parts 2 and 3 of "The Phoenix Saga", where he and Black Tom Cassidy kidnap Lilandra, taking her to the castle known as Cassidy Keep where he gets paid in money from Erik the Red. During the kidnapping, Juggernaut tries to kill Charles via defenestration, but thankfully he's saved in the nick of time by Tom's brother Sean, better known as Banshee. When the X-Men storm Cassidy Keep to save Lilandra, the Shi'ar known as Gladiator throws Juggernaut far away into the ocean after he tries to punch him.

His last appearance is in "The Juggernaut Returns", where he gets mortally wounded by falling debris after a random geek unwittingly steals his powers. Upon retrieving said powers thanks to the efforts of Charles and the X-Men, Juggernaut throws the Ruby of Cyttorak up into outer space so nobody steals his powers again and decides to thank his saviors by simply walking away rather than fighting. He's never seen again afterwards, so it's likely that he gave up trying to destroy his enemies.

Trivia[]

The Juggernaut has been a subject of Internet memes since 2005 due to MyWayEntertainment's "I'm the Juggernaut, Bitch!", a dub parody. The line has also been used by the movie incarnation from X-Men: The Last Stand.
