Julian Emery is the main antagonist of the "Redcoat" arc of the fourth season of Law & Order: Organized Crime. He is a wealthy drug and arms trafficker who runs an organization named Redcoat and is the archenemy of Joseph Stabler, Jr.
He was portrayed by Tom Payne.
Biography[]
History[]
Julian became the leader of the redcoat drug organization, a ring linked to warlords in Afghanistan, Soviet industrialists, and Greek shipping magnates. In addition, he sold black tar heroin to Afghanistan soldiers to fund the Taliban. While he was with Abdul-Azim Ghani talking about funding his dealings, Abdul started to get aggressive, which ended up in Joseph Stabler, Jr. defending Emery. Joseph was dishonorably discharged after stealing, and Julian offered to bring him into his organization, which he did by giving him heroin. Emery later became an ally with Angus Boone, a military vet who ran a honey farm. Julian then hired Tobias Krychek, a wanted war criminal, to be his bodyguard and head of security.
Crossroads[]
Julian is not physically seen, but he is the overarching antagonist of the episode when Samir Bashir is found dead. Trisha Beck, an undercover agent, then reveals to Stabler that Boone is not the main target, Julian is. One of his men attempts to murder Boone, but Boone tortures him and tells him to warn Emery that he is coming.
Redcoat[]
To talk things out, Emery asks Boone and Stabler to meet up in his private jet. Emery tries to give Boone a drink, but he declines it. After asking Boone to traffic a shipment not related to heroin, he tells him that there is a mole in his gang. When Boone is imprisoned for attempting to torture and murder Trisha, who was said to be the mole, he eventually tells Stabler everything he knows. Julian is last seen asking Tobias to murder Boone while he lights a cigar with Joey.
Goodnight[]
In this episode, Joseph is kidnapped by Elliot and Randall so they can stop his heroin addiction. We then receive a flashback in which he protects Emery and is offered to join his organization. Emery tells him that he hasn't been himself lately and would hate to lose him. Jet Slootmaekers and Kyle Vargas search for a warehouse to get their high-tech computer back up and working and to find what Emery is going to sell. After the group escapes from his Mercenaries, they hack into the drive and find an auction involving dozens of weapons.
Stabler's Lament[]
Agreeing to be an informant for the Organized Crime Unit, Joey moves the curtains to notify Vargas to send a message to Elliot about a raid. Unfortunately for the unit, Julian comes to Joey's house and invites him to have dinner with his son. At dinner, Joey bonds with Giles by sitting with him and driving an RC car, which hits Emery's foot. Giles is brought to the dinner table, and Joey is told by Krychek that he needs to come with him to deliver the shipment. Emery goes live on the auction after escaping the police, and, to test a gas called "midnight", he reveals a tied-up Tyler Gutterson before dropping a jar into the cage, killing Tyler. Joey then uses Giles's pad to send a location signal to Vargas and Stabler, which is used by S.W.A.T. and the rest of the crew to intercept the shipment of 6 midnight capsules. After he and Joey leave in the jet, one of Julian's goons shoots Marcus Cole in the throat, instigating a shootout where Tobias is killed, and Colin, the man with the briefcase, is found and captured.
At the end of the episode, Emery reveals to Joey that Tobias is dead before telling him that he has gained a promotion. Emery seems to be congratulating Joey, but he then pulls out a backup briefcase of 6 other capsules and declares him as the new "delivery" boy. Lastly, Julian tends to his son and cuffs the briefcase to Joey, leaving him to look out the window and wonder about his decision to not be with Elliot.
