June is a minor antagonist in the 2024 Netflix adventure fantasy series Avatar: The Last Airbender, based on the Nickelodeon 2005-2008 animated series of the same name.

She is a bounty hunter willing to hunt down any targets for anyone who can afford her services. June gets hired by a reluctant Prince Zuko and General Iroh in an attempt to locate the Avatar Aang for the Fire Nation before Commander Zhao does it.

She is portrayed by Arden Cho in her first villainous role.

History[]

June is a bounty hunter who is best known for her ability to find persons. Years before the events of the show, June heard stories about the Avatar, but deemed such figure as unnecessary because she felt the world needs no one to be saved as some like her have life settled perfectly, preferring to take what she can after problems end, hinting at a tragic past.

In "Spirited Away", June is first seen as Prince Zuko and General Iroh discuss on what do to to prevent Commander Zhao from tracking down and finding the Avatar Aang first than them for the Fire Nation, coming across June as she uses her mount beast to temporarily paralyze one of her targets, making sure he doesn't die or she will be paid only half if he dies. She then asks Zuko and Iroh what they are looking at and Zuko insults her, so June insults him back and tells him she will forget his taunts because she considers his father attractive. Later on, inspired by two pai sho players, Iroh convinces Zuko despite his reluctance over June's loyalties to hire June to find Aang before Zhao does, leading June to ask them about the Avatar.

In "Masks", June manages to track down Aang to the Fire Sage temple and breaks into the building as Aang meets with his predecessor Roku in the Spirit Realm to ask him about how to stop Koh and save his friends Katara and Sokka. June proceeds to paralyze temporarily all of the Fire Sages in the room before Aang exits it, after her beast licks Aang and paralyzes him as well, allowing June to tie him up. She then takes him to a cave where they have a talk, during which she refuses to let him go and expresses her opinions on why the world is "perfect". Zuko and Iroh then arrive, with Zuko congratulating her with astonishment for finding the Avatar and Iroh paying her, telling her to count the money, but June doesn't bother and trusts them due to finding Iroh "cute", leaving with a warning that they must be careful as other bounty hunters are looking for the Avatar.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first live-action version of June, as she made no appearances in M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender film.
  • June's business relationship with General Iroh is the reverse of what their business relationship was in the original Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon: in the original series, Iroh creepily flirted with June much to her chagrin, whereas in the live-action adaptation, June is the one who flirts with an intimidated Iroh.
  • Ming-Na Wen originally expressed interest over portraying June in the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender show, but Arden Cho was chosen for the role instead.
