Junko Kinuta (née Shimizu) is the secondary antagonist of Silent Hill f, the ninth installment of the Silent Hill franchise. She is the older sister of the game's main protagonist, Hinako Shimizu, and appears as a thought form in Hinako's mind who tries to force her to conform to her supposed role as woman in 1960s Japan.
She was portrayed by Nanako Mori in japanese and by Stephanie Wong in english.
Biography[]
Background[]
Junko Shimizu was born from Kanta and Kimie Shimizu in the rural village of Ebisugaoka in Japan, she later became the older sister to Hinako. During their childhood, Junko was very supportive of Hinako even when the later rebelled against their parents, even then, Junko was always very respectful towards her parents.
She was eventually married to a man named Kinuta and became pregnant with his child, this created a resentment in Hinako as she felt Junko had abandonned her to conform to social norms. This resentment culminated in Hinako imagining her sister has an abusive and manipulative beeing during the game.
Silent Hill f[]
Junko first appears talking to Hinako who thanks her for always supporting her during their childhood and Hinako gives her a bell as a gift. Junko later seems to be helping Hinako by throwing down a ladder when she is beeing chased by the Shiromuku, though when Hinako climbs up the ladder, Junko is nowhere to be found.
Junko appears once again in the Ebisugaoka middle school, she tells Hinako that her friends will betray her eventually, but when Hinako manages to leave the classroom she's locked inside of, Junko has disappeared.
When Fox-Hinako and Fox Mask are about to get married, Junko is seen wishing the best for the couple. After Hinako gets to her friend Shu's house and recieves an alarming phone call from her house, Junko arrives, and is revealed with gray skin and an owl mask. Sha tells Hinako that time is running out and asks her : "How much longer will you stay here ?". She also says that Hinako doesn't seem like her usual self but that she feels the same, she then warns Hinako that she needs to decide her future by herself.
In the Dark Shrine, while Fox-Hinako is collecting emblems to proceed further into the Shrine, Junko has a talk with Hinako and asks her if she has killed her other self who doesn't want to get married. When Junko learns that Human-Hinako is still alive she says that if Fox-Hinako won't kill her other self then she will do it herself.
Later, Human-Hinako confronts her Fox-self, now transformed into the Shiromuku, and gets grabbed by the neck by the monster. Junko shows up telling Hinako that she's beeing rude and asks the Shiromuku to kill Hinako wich she does. Junko then tells the Shiromuku that she has to say her farewells and that she hopes she finds happiness.
Junko's fate differs based on the different endings.
Coming Home to Roost[]
In this ending, Junko confronts Hinako in front the altar and is surprised that Hinako is still alive, a confused Hinako starts taking the red capsules. A concerned Junko asks what the capsules are and tries to take them away from Hinako, but appears to freeze in place and disappears.
Fox's Wedding[]
At the altar, Junko says that Hinako Shimizu no longer exists and that she will make sure that this version of Hinako will disappear but the Doll appears on Junko's shoulder and makes her disappear.
Fox Wets its Tail[]
Confronting Junko at the altar, Hinako says that she has the right to exist, but Junko responds that Hinako can overcome her need for freedom but Hinako retorks that it is her choice to make. While trying to touch her sister, Junko freezes and the Doll is seen on Hinako's shoulder and Junko then disappears.
Ebisugaoka in Silence[]
In this ending, Hinako realises that someone or something is toying with all of them, she talks about how one God wants to marry her to Kotoyuki and one wants to stop the wedding. Hinako then says that these Gods want to make both Hinako fight each other. She says that she's been a terrible daughter but if Junko really wants what's best for her she will let her make her own choices, Junko then lets her younger sister destroy the altar.
Appearance[]
Junko appears as a tall young woman with black hair wearing a dark grey-blue kimono, she has grey skin and an owl mask masking her face.
Personality[]
In the real world, Junko seems to be a gentle and supporting woman, but in the other world, Junko is manipulative and verbally abusive to her sister. She has no remorse with having her sister killed to make her marry Kotoyuki and conform to social norm.
