~ Jussie Smollett's catchphrase. |
Jussie Smollett is a parody of the disgraced American actor Jussie Smollett (who gained notoriety in 2019 for faking a hate crime against himself) who appears on the political comedy show Saturday Night Live. He frequently makes up outlandish stories about being attacked (to the point that he is banned from calling the police) and has appeared in at least two SNL sketches.
He was portrayed by Chris Redd.
Appearances[]
Jussie's first appearence was in the sketch "Shark Tank: Legal Edition", in which several obviously guilty clients attempt to convince a panel of shady celebrity lawyers to defend them. He claims to have been attacked outside the studio by Donald Trump, but cracks almost immediately when one of the hosts tells him there are cameras outside. Jussie is there to get a defense lawyer for his upcoming trial over faking a hate crime (although this is never stated), and although he is so obviously guilty that even Cellino & Barnes refuse to defend him, Alan Dershowitz agrees to take the case.
Jussie later appears in the sketch "Network Meeting", in which the showrunners of Empire tell his manager that they're going to fire him for making up too many hate crimes, and for being two hours late to the meeting. On arriving, Jussie claims that he's late because he was the victim of a hate crime. The rest of the sketch consists of him trying to convince the network via a "bag of clues" that the attacker supposedly left him (including a box of white strips and three Ks). Eventually the network have had enough of Jussie's lies and simply fire him, although he tries to win them over by faking another hate crime.
