Kaai Hanatsuyu, also known as Decomposer, is a major antagonist of A Certain Magical Index: Genesis Testament, serving as one of the main antagonists of the Operation Handcuffs Arc and a minor antagonist in the Post-Handcuffs Arc.
The identical twin sister of Youen Hanatsuyu, Kaai is a Level 0 esper and a researcher from the dark side of Academy City who specializes in biological warfare. She is also the arch-nemesis of Kuroko Shirai.
Appearance[]
Like her sister, Kaai is a little girl who looks to be around the age of 10. However, she has a buxom figure with large breasts that don't fit her appearance. She has long black hair, which is tied in a ponytail with a red ribbon and has purple eyes. She wears a white yukata that resembles a labcoat with yellow splotches on it and has a gas mask on the right side of her head.
Personality[]
Kaai Hanatsuyu is an extremely psychotic, cruel, sadistic, brutal, and twisted individual who has zero problems with killing dozens of people, taking gleeful joy in causing maximum carnage and destruction. She is chaotic and demented, hating order and believes the world would be better off without it, claiming that all order does absorb everything until it tapers off and hardens. She's also quite playful and childish, usually taunting her enemies before killing them in the most horific fashion.
Moreover, Kaai is constantly expressing the desire to defile and degrade herself, claiming it's her role as "Decomposer" to absorb the filth that other people find disgusting. She also dabbles in exhibitionism for the same reason, such as live-stream herself taking a nude bath in a mixture of enzymes implied to have been made from the corpses of people she's killed and taking off her clothers in public places in order to humilate both herself and others.
However, in spite of her depravity, Kaai is capable of ocassionally showing mercy to others, as shown when she spares Shiage Hamazura and Kuroko Shirai. She also admires people who would go out of their way to defile themselves like her. Furthermore, she's shown to be rather affectionate towards her sister and gets along with her very well.
Biography[]
Kaai's full background is largely unknown. What is known is that she and Youen are the daughters of Kuchikusa Hanatsuyu, also known as Converter, who was affiliated with the Dark Side. It's unclear when Kaai and Youen became part of the Dark Side, given their young age.

Decomposition Manipulation: Kaai is able to transform enzymes and other biological compounds directly into lethal bioweapons which are able to decompose any organic or inorganic materials. She is able to control all things & beings connected to decomposition such as vermin, worms and maggots.
Animal Manipulation: By spraying an attractant, Kaai can summon and control various small creatures, such as mice, fleas, ticks, flies, mosquitos, leeches, slugs, centipedes, roaches, crows, and stray cats. She can use a swarm of rats as a meat shield to defend herself and create strong winds that can deviate the trajectory of bullets by making a horde of insects flap their wings simultaneously. The animals she controls can not only attack her targets but also defend her and evade them. In addition to this, Kaai can attach a giant crow to her back in order to simulate flight by using parasitic enlargement; a certain type of parasite can make a portion of its host’s body grow.

Gifted Intellect: Despite her deranged and depraved behavior, Kaai is a very intelligent individual with extraordinary scientific expertise. She mainly specializes in biological warfare and is shown to be quite proficent in chemistry.
Combat Proficentcy: Kaai is shown to be an extremely formidable combatant. She makes up for her lack of esper powers with her ability to out-fight trained and experienced adults. Her combat skills and weapons makes her just as deadly as high-level espers.
