~ Kabeer and Krass discussing their plans for Scar, inadvertently setting into motion events that will change the history of the Pride Lands forever. |
Kabeer and Krass are major antagonists in the The Lion King franchise, serving as the secondary antagonists of the 2023 comic book limited series Disney Villains: Scar.
They are a pair of scavenging vultures who often roam the Pride Lands in search of food during King Mufasa's reign. Shortly after Mufasa's heir Simba is born, Kabeer and Krass come across Mufasa's disgraced brother Scar, whom they initially try to devour before coming up with a plan to use him as their "puppet" to take over the lands with the Hyena Clan's assistance.
History[]
Disney Villains: Scar[]
One day, the same day when Prince Simba is born, Kabeer and Krass are flying over the Pride Lands when they discover that Scar, the unpopular and disgraced Prince of the Pride Lands and brother of King Mufasa, has been knocked off into a canyon to die by Thema, the mother of a poor wildebeest calf whom Scar tried to devour out of spite for his terrible day. After watching Scar for hours, Kabeer and Krass prepare to eat him, mocking the unconscious lion over his failures, but Kabeer comes up with the idea to, in case of Scar surviving the fall, take credit for saving him to convince Scar of joining forces with them to take over the Pride Lands so they can finally have "main courses" over "leftovers". Knowing that they must have something to convince Scar of teaming up with them, both vultures realize that they can ask for the assistance of the Hyena Clan, but as they say this, Rafiki suddenly appears and beats them up to scare them away to heal Scar. However, Kabeer and Krass see Scar leaving Rafiki's home moments later, agreeing to carry out their plan.
Days later, Kabeer and Krass meet with Scar after he fails to sway three lionesses to his side under the promise that they would eat like queens if they helped him to become king. Scar initially asks them what their purpose in life is, hinting that he plans to eat them, but Kabber quickly makes their offer as Krass helps himself with a zebra bone. Unimpressed, Scar grows annoyed at the duo because he doesn't think the hyenas can be approached, but Krass insists that one of their friends is a hyena that could introduce Scar to them, as Kabeer points out that they are currently unhappy with their leadership and that Scar could lead them. Intrigued, Scar first demands to know what they wish in exchange, and after Kabeer and Krass admit that they wish to eat more, Scar agrees to their plan. Once they reach the Elephant Graveyard, however, Kabeer reveals that he actually knows just one of the hyenas but not the rest, so they should hide for safety, but Scar arrogantly declines, so Kabeer offers him to eat Krass until Scar agrees just to have the "element of surprise" as they prepare to meet the Zuhour, the Hyena Clan's queen.
As it turns out, the hyena friend Kabeer and Kras have is none other than Shenzi, a young female hyena who has been incidentally chosen to be devoured by Zuhour, as she deems her a potential threat to her rule. Coming up with a plan, Scary reveals his presence and decides to recruit Shenzi in hopes of establishing an alliance with Zuhour. Scared, Kabeer and Krass tell Scar that they fulfilled their part of the deal, so Scar accepts to let them go and feast on the Pride Lands once he becomes king, but tells them that they are gonna miss his rise to power. Unconvinced, Kabeer and Krass fly away, leaving Scar and Shenzi alone with Zuhour to discuss a possible alliance.
Once Scar, with the assistance of his three hyena lackeys, Shenzi, Banzai and Ed, herded several wildebeests into the Hyena Clan's gorge to overthrow Zuhour, Kabeer and Krass return with a flock of fellow vultures, whom Scar sics on Zuhour and her loyal hyenas, massacring them all. Kabeer and Krass then ask Scar if they did good, which Scar confirms, allowing them to fly and eat with impunity once he becomes king before asking them to leave before he changes his mind.

Trivia[]
- Kabeer and Krass are the second villains of The Lion King franchise that are considered responsible for setting into motion the plot by playing a role in Scar's descent into villainy, following the Strange Lion and the Strange Cobra from The Lion Guard. If they had eaten Scar while he was vulnerable, he wouldn't have gotten to kill Mufasa and Simba wouldn't have left the Pride Lands.
- Disney Villains: Scar writer Chuck Brown created Kabeer and Krass as new characters who weren't seen in the original The Lion King film in order to show a "whole new side" of the Pride Lands.
- Despite their role in convincing Scar to overthrow Mufasa and that Scar does succeed in the duo's plans, both Kabeer and Krass are nowhere to be seen during the events of the original film. Moreover, the limited comic book series ends with them still alive and active, so it can be theorized that they were simply offscreen during the film's events and got away with their actions.
