Kagekatsu Toda is a minor antagonist in the manga/anime series Record of Ragnarok.

He is the main antagonist in Kojiro Sasaki's first Flashback during the Third Round, a supporting character in the Third Round and a minor character in the Tenth Round of the Ragnarok Tournament.

Kagekatsu Toda is a swordsman instructor in the Seigen’s Dojo, as well as the son of Kagemasa Toda and the grandson of Seigen Toda. Among his students there was also Kojiro Sasaki, who was kicked out because he was unsuitable for learning the art of the sword, although six months later Kagekatsu admitted his inferiority towards Kojiro Sasaki.

He is voiced by Mark Atherlay in the English dubbed version of the anime adaptation. However, it is unknown who dubbed him in the Japanese dub.

Appearance[]

Kagekatsu Toda is a very large, muscular man with a black chonmage hairstyle. He wears black pants with a white douma attached to his belt. His waist is bandaged.

Personality[]

Kagekatsu believes in hard work and shows contempt towards those who don't work as hard as him. Faced with laziness, or apparent laziness like that of Kojiro Sasaki, he becomes angry and views the person he considers lazy with contempt. However, he is well aware when he is inferior to his opponent, and he is ready to retreat from a battle he cannot win and admire the one who is stronger than him.

Biography[]

Kagekatsu Toda is a swordsman, son of Kagemasa Toda and nephew of Seigen Toda, as well as an instructor in Seigen's Dojo. One day, when Kojiro Sasaki, a student of the Dojo, shows up late, Kagekatsu scolds him and challenges him, managing to beat him and scolding him for having withdrawn from the challenge, which leads him to think that he does not have the nature of a warrior and, together to Kagemasa Toda, convince himself to remove him from Dojo. Six months later, during the students' training, Kojiro Sasaki shows up again to challenge Seigen Toda and Kagekatsu, noticing that he seems improved, decides to challenge him. Kojiro admits that he had to challenge him 146 times in his mind before he could beat him, and that for this reason he no longer has interest in him. Kagekatsu feels outraged and attacks him, but seeing his death in his mind he understands that Kojiro is stronger than him and gives up. After challenging Seigen, Kojiro leaves the Dojo and never returns.

About four hundred years after his death, during the Ragnarok Tournament, Kagekatsu Toda watches the Third Round from the stands together with his relatives, cheering Kojiro Sasaki and rejoicing when the latter manages to win by defeating and killing Poseidon. Kagekatsu Toda also watches the Tenth Round in the stands with his family, watching the duel between Soji Okita and Susano'o no Mikoto and ultimately witnessing the victory of Okita, who manages to defeat and kill Susano'o.

Powers and Abilities[]

Golden Age: As a Human soul in the Afterlife, Kagekatsu possesses the appearance and abilities he had during his Golden Age, the age in which he was at his peak.

Swordsmanship and Physical Strength: Kagekatsu possesses at least above-average skill in swordsmanship and great physical strength, to the point of defeating a young Kojiro Sasaki and making the latter admit that he has it had to fight 146 times in his head to be able to beat him.
