The Kaiju are the main antagonists of the Pacific Rim franchise. They are a race of gigantic extraterrestrial beasts generally engineered by the Precursors, a sentient species of alien conquerors who reside in the Anteverse.

History[]

Background[]

The first Kaiju were developed by the Precursors millions of years ago when they first attempted to conquer Earth during the Triassic Period. However, when the environment proved to be uninhabitable for them, the Precursors decided to put their plans on hold and wait until Earth's ecosystem was just right for their needs.

Thanks to the pollution of Earth's environment by mankind, the planet's environment eventually became suitable for the Precursors to colonize. Deciding to finally begin their assault against Earth's inhabitants, the Precursors opened an interdimensional portal on the bottom of the Pacific Rim, later known as the Breach by the humans, and began sending their Kaiju through one by one, starting with Trespasser on August 10th, 2013. Trespasser would go on to destroy three Californian cities - San Francisco, Sacramento, and Oakland - and kill tens of thousands of people over the course of six days before it was finally brought down by three tactical nuclear missiles. The Kaiju's attack on San Francisco was later known as "K-DAY".

Although humanity believed that Trespasser's attack was an isolated event, they were proven wrong when a second Kaiju, Hundun, emerged from the Breach six months later and attacked Manila. When a third Kaiju, Kaiceph, attacked Cabo San Lucas in June 2014, followed by a fourth Kaiju in September, the world finally realized that these attacks were not going to stop and eventually decided to build massive humanoid mechs called Jaegers under a military organization called the Pan Pacific Defense Corps (PPDC) to effectively combat the Kaiju threat without the use of nuclear weapons.

Pacific Rim[]

Numerous Kaiju attacked various cities along the Pacific Rim and were met with strong resistance by the Jaegers. Over the next five years, the Kaiju slowly began to adapt to the Jaegers' strengths and weaponry. However, the humans remained unaware of this and came to believe that the Kaiju were slowly losing to the combined efforts of mankind.

In 2020, the tide began to turn in the favor of the Kaiju when the Category III Kaiju Knifehead demonstrated overt intelligence in battle, allowing it to critically damage the American Jaeger Gipsy Danger and kill one of its pilots. As the Kaiju began to best the Jaegers over the next four years, the United Nations eventually lost faith in the Jaeger program and began funding the creation of a coastal wall in the hopes that it would keep the Kaiju from invading human cities. By the end of 2024, out of the over thirty Jaegers built, only four were still intact. It was around this point that Marshal Stacker Pentecost, the leader of the PPDC, came up with a plan to destroy the Breach with a thermonuclear warhead, which would end the Kaiju threat for good.

The wall was proven to be a complete failure on January 1, 2025 when the Category IV Kaiju Mutavore easily breached the section of the wall built around Sydney, Australia in less than a hour. The city was only saved from certain destruction by the Australian Jaeger Striker Eureka, who easily killed the Kaiju before it was able to do much damage.

Hermann Gottlieb, a scientist under the PPDC's K-Science division, came to predict that the "throat" of the Breach was expanding and that a Double Event, a phenomenon in which two Kaiju emerged from the Breach at the same time, would occur within the next seven days following Mutavore's attack on Sydney. Although Hermann's theory was proven correct, he and Pentecost would both learn about the truth about the Kaiju (in how they were bioweapons grown by alien colonists) when his colleague Newton Geiszler drifted with a piece of Mutavore's brain.

Unfortunately, this revelation comes with a cost. As noted by Hannibal Chau, Geiszler's drifting into a Kaiju brain also allowed Precursors' drift system to locate him and scanned knowledge and secrets of PPDC that he had, leading them reworking on latest kaiju designs, Leatherback and Otachi to match the strength Cherno Alpha, Crimson Typhoon and Striker Eureka. In addition of overpowering three Jaegers, Precursors had Otachi tracking Geiszler down when the tide goes to their favor. Even so, the newly restored Jaeger Gipsy Danger appeared and defeated both kaijus much to their fury. To add insult to injury, not only Otachi's still developing fetus failed to kill Geiszler, but also he and Hermann drifted together into the baby Kaiju's brain, allowing PPDC to understand more of the Breach's system.

With another of their secrets revealed, Precursors initiated Triple Event by creating Raiju and Scunner both to guard the Breach and assisting their ultimate kaiju Slattern. Shortly after stealthily circling around Striker Eureka and Gipsy Danger to ensure whether there are opposition beside both Jaegers, Raiju returned to Scunner's side in time for Slatter's arrival. An intense battle ensued with Gipsy Danger lost its right arm and had one of its leg damaged from Scunner and Raiju's combined assault despite it managed to kill the former whereas Striker Eureka and Slattern deliver crippling blows upon one another, resulting the former's nuclear payload to destroy the Breach to stuck on its back. As a result, Striker Eureka had to blow itself up to kill both Slattern and Scunner when the two realized the Jaeger to be a greater threat, subsequently leading Raleigh and Mako, two pilots of Gipsy Dangers, to sacrifice their own since Gipsy is powered by nuclear reactor that can be used as a replacement bomb.

After Striker Eureka's sacrifice, Gipsy Danger carries Raiju's remains as a shield to bypass Breach's scanner and enter Precursor's base in Anteverse, only to use Slatter's crippled form instead when the kaiju revealed to survive the point-blank blast albeit injured as result. But Slattern won't give up without a fight: It managed to cut off Mako's air supply as Raleigh used Gipsy Danger's turbine to fry Slattern's insides as they pass through the Breach, killing it and allowing the Jaeger to bypass the portal's scanners. Raleigh then ejected Mako in an escape pod while wasting no time in activating Gipsy Danger's self-destruct system before entering his own. As both pilots return to Earth, Gipsy Danger explodes, decimating the bewildered Precursors' facility and ending the war.

Pacific Rim: Uprising[]

To be added

Pacific Rim: The Black[]

Australia has been taken over by kaiju and now siblings Taylor and Hayley Travis, working together, pilot a jaeger to find their missing parents but find some challenging obstacles along the way.

Physical Appearance & Traits[]

Every-single kaiju aren't the same per se, but in the end, they are also similar to one another. For example, they all have monstrous size and strength, while some can be considered nightmarish looking.

Personalities[]

Since their creators, the Precursors, mind control them to do their bidding, they don't appear to have any personalities but have one purpose, to serve their masters. Because of this, the kaiju aren't evil, but it's their masters who are. Although they've been so brutal and aggressive towards all of humanity, every notorious action the kaiju did was because the creators commanded them to.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

Each kaiju species have their own individual abilities.

Abilities[]

Although kaijus have separate powers, each and everyone also share abilities like, monstrous strength, giant size, Hive-mind, pressure immunity, amphibian adaptation etc…

Weaknesses[]

Despite the kaijus powerful abilities they appear to have weaknesses, and so far each and everyone are also kill-able.

Trivia[]

  • Kaiju in many aspects are similar to the Angels from the Neon Genesis Evangelion series:
    • Both are colossal monstrosities who seek nothing but to annihilate all life on Earth by reaching a certain localization (Terminal Dogma for Angels, Mount Fuji for Kaiju).
    • Both were created by ancient highly-advanced alien civilization (First Ancestral Race for Angels, Precursors for Kaiju).
    • One of the Angels, Sachiel, possesses blue-colored blood just like all the Kaiju in Pacific Rim.
    • Most of them proved immune to conventional weaponry, and sometimes even a nuclear weaponry.
    • There is at least one human-looking individual of the species (Kaworu Nagisa for Angels, Kaiju Boy for Kaiju), whose hair is white and eyes red.
    • DNA of both was used to create techno-organic hybrids (Evangelions for Angels, Obsidian Fury for Kaiju).
