Kaiju No. 9 is the main antagonist of the manga/anime series Kaiju No. 8. He is a numbered Kaiju who was present at the testing grounds of the Defense Force, reviving his fallen brethren. He has since become a reoccurring threat against the Defense Force, plotting attacks, reviving more kaiju and seeking to obtain power.
He is voiced by Hiroyuki Yoshino in Japanese and by Alejandro Saab (who also voiced Trebol in One Piece, Derrick Arden in Black Butler, Kaigaku in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Atsushi Kanamoto in Sword Art Online) in English.
Appearance[]
Kaiju No. 9 initially had a gaunt appearance, being a tall, thin kaiju with a set of jagged teeth exposed. His head appears to have a set of two protuberances stacked onto each other. Underneath his head are small, sunken eyes that are not visible sometime. Because of his shapeshifting abilities, he is able to replicate the appearances of his consumed victims.
He later gains a more significant bulk in appearance as well as darker skin after going through his first evolution.
Upon absorbing an Ant-Type Kaiju, Kaiju No. 9's top half remains relatively the same from prior, but his lower half becomes that of an Ant-Type Kaiju, with his body being directly fused to the kaiju. Later upon absorbing the powers of Kaiju No. 2, Kaiju No. 9 grows in mass, becoming a giant, muscular kaiju, in addition to gaining a large tail and a new set of six eyes.
Personality[]
Kaiju No. 9 appears to be a calm and collected kaiju, but at the same being very ruthless and destructive. His motives are currently enigmatic but he seems to have a desire of seeing the Defense Force being destroyed, as well as causing casualties. Upon learning of Kafka Hibino's kaiju powers as Kaiju No. 8, he seeks to obtain his power.
He is notably one of the few kaiju capable of speech, suggesting his higher intelligence in contrast to other kaiju. He has also shown to be cunningly strategic with his abilities, being able to shapeshift into different individuals and blend in within society without being spotted. In battle, he demonstrates his strategic thinking further by deploying decoy bodies of himself to occupy Kafka, Kikoru Shinomiya and Gen Narumi, while secretly infiltrating the base to attack Isao Shinomiya.

Powers and Abilities[]
As a Daikaiju, Kaiju No. 9 is acknowledged to be one of the more powerful kaiju in the series so far, with an official resilience being 8.5. Because of his continuous attacks and constant evolution, he is noted by Isao to be a dangerous threat to the Defense Force that cannot be underestimated.
- Genius-Level Intelligence: No. 9 has also displayed exceptional level of intelligence, capable of playing and winning in twelve game of chess with ease simultaneously against humans to witness average humans' intellectual levels, as shown at the end of the first season of the anime. Defense Force Director General Keiji Itami has described No. 9 as operating similarly to a virus, constantly evolving over the course of battle.
- Finger Projectiles: Kaiju No. 9 can fire round bullet-like projectiles from his fingers. These projectiles are extremely dangerous, being able to shoot deep into his opponents' bodies and blow chunks of flesh off. These projectiles were also shown to penetrate through thick material such as metal, as well as the skin of other Kaiju such as Kaiju No. 8.
- Assimilation and Shapeshifting: Kaiju No. 9 can assimilate and take the form of different organisms. He uses this ability to disguise himself among humans in order to continue observing and learning more about them. This ability extends to other Kaiju as well, shown when his duplicates merged themselves with Ant-Type Kaiju, and when he assimilated Kaiju No. 2 through the Numbers Weapon 2 suit and gauntlets. He can also morph different parts of his body to give himself an advantage during battle, such as when he grew extra limbs in order to incapacitate Reno Ichikawa during their first encounter.
- Physical Strength: After molting his first body, Kaiju No. 9 grew considerably stronger and more resistant to attacks. He gained even more strength after absorbing Kaiju No. 2, being able to go toe-to-toe with the powerful Kaiju No. 8.
- Invisible Barrier Generation: During his first encounter with Reno Ichikawa and Iharu Furuhashi, Kaiju No. 9 created a large invisible space which blocked communication signals and trapped the two.
- Duplication: Kaiju No. 9 can create more copies of himself to gain an advantage during battle. These duplicates appear to be independant in thought, as two of them conversed with each other, had different thought processes, and even referred to each other as "Beta" and "Gamma".
