Kaiser Otto is the main antagonist of the anime series Izetta: The Last Witch. He is the megalomaniacal ruler of Germania, who, in contrast to his peers, believes that witches exist and intends to use their power to conquer the world. Thus, he establishes the Germanian Witch project, led by Arnold Berkmann.
He was voiced by Koichi Yamadera in Japanese and Brandon Potter in English.
Personality[]
As expected for someone based on Adolf Hitler, Otto's ultimate dream is taking over the world. In contrast to his peers, Otto wholeheartedly and correctly believes that witches exist, and desires to gain access to their power for his world domination. He is also pragmatic, as he spares General Grosskopf for providing useful information about Izetta, although he still reassigns Grosskopf to a prison camp and takes all his lands. Relating to this, Otto will reward underlings that succeed in their missions, but still dismisses them for their constant failures, as seen with Berkmann's case.
Otto's ruthlessness fully comes to light when he intends to use a new secret missile weapon on Landsbruck to force the world to surrender to him. To ensure that the plan won't be intervened, he has his men prepared for Izetta and Finé. Unfortunately, for all his pragmatism, Otto is still unable to comprehend selflessness, as he doesn't foresee Müller's sacrifice to let Finé and Bianca to reach the dignitaries and stop their nations' surrender to him, and Izetta draining all magic on Earth to defeat Sophie, foiling his dream of world conquest.
History[]
Otto is the tyrannical emperor of Germania. While his peers don't believe that witches exist, he on the other hand does and even intends to use their power in his bid for world conquest. To this end, he establishes the Germanian Witch project, led by the cunning Arnold Berkmann.
Eventually, Otto sets his sight on the country of Eylstadt. The country's princess, Finé, is helped by Izetta, the last surviving member of a clan of witches that can manipulate any object they touch. Izetta soon captures the interest of Berkmann, who intends to catch her at all cost. However, the Germanian forces, led by General Grosskopf, are defeated by Izetta, and the general reports it back to Otto, who then reminds him that it is actually his third defeat as Eylstadt had defeated the first two attempts by themselves. However, he decides to reassign Grosskopf to a prison camp and take all his lands instead of executing him, as his information on Izetta proves to be useful.
After Landsbruck falls to Germania completely, Otto congratulates Berkmann and Sophie for their efforts but dismisses Berkmann from the Witch project as the plan to ambush Izetta proves to be a stalemente. With the odds now in his favor, Otto sets out to conquer the rest of the world.
However, Berkmann surrenders to Eylstadt and reveals Otto's new secret missile weapon, empowered and controlled by Sophie's magic and soon to be unleashed on Landsbruck as an example to force the nations to surrender. To stop this, Finé travels to the Germanian led conference in Westria while Izetta fights Sophie, only to find out that the latter and the Germanians have prepared for them.
While Izetta and Sophie are fighting, Müller sacrifices himself while creating a diversion, allowing Finé and Bianca to reach the dignitaries and stop their nations' surrender to Germania. Izetta draws Sophie away from the weapon, but the Germanians activate a Sophie clone, forcing Izetta to drain all magic all over the world to stop the missile while ending magic on Earth forever. Later on, Atlanta leads the Allies to invade Europe, forcing Otto to commit suicide, ending the war.
