Kala is the main antagonist of Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachimaru. He is a powerful individual who leads the Ususama School. He once served under Fudo Myo-o before betraying him. Both Ata and Ikkaku report to him. Kala’s goals are to acquire Mandala’s and Pandora’s box.

Personality

Kala is an incredibly ruthless individual who was known for destroying entire planets by himself. He is shown to be power-hungry by how he wants to acquire Pandora’s box and Mandala’s box for his own benefit. Kala is known to be focused on his mission by the amount of time he spent fighting against Yasha in order to achieve his mission. During his interaction with Ata and Ikkaku, Kala is shown to be direct with his orders and goals.

Biography

Past

Centuries ago, Kala was once a servant of Fudo Myo-o, the Samurai god. Kala betrayed Fudo Myo-o and sought power on his level. He created his own school called, Ususama School. The school taught samurais different ways to fight. Kala became the enemy of Fudo Myo-o and his right hand, Yasha, the latter of whom who have spent centuries going after them. During this time, Kala used his powers to personally destroy many planets. In recent times, Ata joined his side after he betrayed Daruma. Kala also backs Ikkaku in his mission to kill Hachimaru to achieve the power he would need to unlock Mandala’s box.

Plot

Kala first appeared during a meeting between Ata, Viri and Ikkaku. As Ikkaku states that he is going to go after Hachimaru, Ata says that he wanted to rip him apart and take his pieces back with him. Kala notices that their plan did not go well. He instructs them to go after Hachimaru themselves in person.

When Ata tells Kala that he captured Hachimaru, Kala congratulates him on his tasks and orders him to get Mandala's box and to restore the seven keys. Kala then locates a planet that is confirmed to be Mandala's box that was created by Fudo Myo-o. However, when Hachimaru ascend to having divine powers and Kala's minions begin to get defeated, Kala is confronted by Yasha. She informs Kala that his end is coming to which he does not trust her words. The two fights as others watch the aftermath of Hachimaru's attack against Ata and thinks about the formation of the Seven keys.
