|~ Kali singing to Danny before killing him.|
Kali is a supporting antagonist in the 1996 film The Crow: City of Angels. She is a sadistic, bloodthirsty assassin who works for drug lord Judah Earl, on whose orders she and her fellow assassins murder Ashe Corven and his young son, Danny.
She was portrayed by the late Thuy Trang.
Kali is an assassin who murders people as much for pleasure as for money; she enjoys killing for its own sake, so much so that she took the name of the Hindu goddess of death. The novelization of the film gives her a backstory: Despite growing up in a stable, loving home, Kali has taken pleasure in acts of cruelty and violence for as long as she can remember; it is implied that she was simply born evil. She committed murder for the first time at the age of 10 by pushing her younger brother off a ledge to his death, making it look like an accident.
As an adult, she works as an assassin for drug kingpin Judah Earl, specializing in killing his enemies as brutally as possible in order to send a message.
The Crow: City of Angels
One night, Kali and Judah's other minions, Curve, Spider Monkey, and Nemo, kill a man who owes Judah money in an alley behind Ashe Corven's body shop, and he and his son Danny inadvertently witness the murder. When Judah orders them killed to eliminate them as witnesses, Kali murders Danny right in front of Ashe, before Curve kills him, as well.
That same night, Ashe is resurrected by a mystical crow, and, with the help of a young woman named Sarah, sets out to avenge his and Danny's murder by killing their murderers. After Ashe kills Spider Monkey and Nemo, Judah sends her and Curve to dispatch him and Sarah. Kali and Curve break into the tattoo parlor where Sarah works and interrogate her boss and friend Noah, who refuses to tell them where she is. When Kali threatens him with a tattoo needle, Noah curses her and spits in her face; enraged, Kali stabs him in the eye with the needle, killing him.
Judah sends Kali to Sarah's loft apartment to draw Ashe out. Sure enough, he arrives, and they do battle. With the vision gifted to him by the crow, Ashe sees that Kali murdered Danny. He grabs her and throws her against a wall, breaking her leg. As she tries to limp away, Ashe lifts her up off the floor and throws her out of the window. She is killed instantly when she hits the ground, leaving a blood stain pattern in the shape of a crow.
In the original workprint of the film and novelization, Kali survives the fall but is paralyzed. She begs Ashe to kill her but Ashe coldly refuses and walks away, leaving her to spend her last agonizing moments of life in extreme pain from her injuries and unable to defend herself as she is subsequently raped by some vagrants.
