Kalibas, also known as Kalibas The Sightless Judge, is a minor antagonist in the 2020 video game Doom: Eternal.

It is a brain-like demon who serves as a judge of Nekroval to decide each soul to be harvested for Argent Energy as their remains would turn to demons or to be disgarded to the Blood Swamps.

Biography[]

Past[]

Kalibas is an ancient demon who held a higher rank above lesser demons is known to be rare. At some point after the Khan Maykr's pact with Davoth, Kalibas is appointed judge by her to be the judge of the souls. As a decider of each trial of souls, Kalibas makes its decision to whether or not a soul will be harvested for Argent Energy while their remains would eventually turn to demons and the other be disgarded to the Blood Swamps. While being immobile itself, it does set itself defenses with the turrets serving as its eyes and orchestrates a defense strategy in case of being attacked.

Doom: Eternal[]

Kalibas is aware of the Doom Slayer's arrival as it spread alert to the demons within Nekravol and ordered them to kill them. The Doom Slayer manage to get through them as he gets into a cage to fight Kalibas and meets face to face with it. Knowing the Doom Slayer has breached its lair, it decided the choice to execute him as it prepares its defense strategy with its eyes shooting at him. The Doom Slayer manage to shoot at its first eye, having it summon Gargoyles to defend it against the Doom Slayer. With the Gargoyles cleared out and Kalibas' second eye destroyed, it summoned Pain Elementals to kill him only to met their death by the Slayer. The phases would be repeated until its remaining two eyes are destroyed and its shields going down. Unable to do anything to stop the Doom Slayer, it met its end as the Doom Slayer punched it in the weak spot, destroying it and ending its tyranny.

In spite of its death, the Doom Slayer would witnessed how many victims are being tortured until it breaks their spirits and their remains being used to be transformed to demons. Regardless, its death would also allow the Doom Slayer to end the Argent Energy transfer and enter Urdak. Another result of Kalibas' death, the Doom Slayer destroys the Icon of Sin's heart which breaks the pact and sparks both the Hell corruption of Urdak and the deaths of both the Khan Maykr and the Icon of Sin.

Trivia[]

  • During the development of Doom: Eternal, Erebus was planned to be the judge of Nekroval as well as part of the Hell Royalty of the plans for Hell leadership only to be replaced by Kalibas and the Hell Priests.
