Kanato Sumida is a player in the Desire Grand Prix who transforms into Kamen Rider Da-Paan and a major antagonist in Kamen Rider Geats.
He is portrayed by Ryunosuke Miyamoto.
Biography[]
Kanato was originally a member of his high school's basketball team until a leg injury left him unable to continue playing, leading him to develop a misanthropic hate of the people around him. Because of this, when he was chosen to participate in the Desire Grand Prix, Kanato put down as his desire that he wished for all humans on Earth to be wiped out.
Kanato was one of seven players to survive the first round of the DGP by acquiring a powerup. He would go on to participate in the second round, where the Riders did battle against a horde of Thief Jyamato.
Kanato later took part in the third round, which saw the DGP Riders battling against a horde of zombie Jyamato. During the round, Kanato was bit by a zombie Jyamato and infected with their virus, causing the other zombies to not attack him. He would end up losing the round after he failed to gather enough points and fell behind Neon after he attacked another Rider, resulting in him being eliminated from the game. Before this, Kanato vowed to kill every other rider once he returns.
Trivia[]
- Kanato's hatred of humans brings to mind that of Ecole of Kamen Rider Outsiders, a spin-off that previously concurrently aired with Geats also penned by Yuya Takahashi. The only major difference is their reason behind their misanthrope; Kanato's hatred could be seen as petty, as his misfortune is not a fault of his own. Whereas Ecole's hatred stems from his disillusionment and nihilism with the crisis the world is facing. Kanato fails to achieve his goal after being eliminated in the DGP twice, whereas Ecole attempts to commit omnicide by using Zein's powers.
