Kanedama is a Slot machine-themed Youkai who served the Youkai Army Corps and a minor antagonist in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, appearing as the main antagonist of the 13th episode.

He is voiced by Kaoru Shinoda who previously voiced Jade Mask in Himitsu Sentai Gorenger, Totpat in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, the elder of the Hitotsume Kozou Brothers also in Kakuranger and later voiced GG Boon in Gekisou Sentai Carranger, Amehoshi in Seijuu Sentai Gingaman and Trinoid 0: Saunaginnan in Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger. His human form is played by Seiroku Saitoi.

Biography[]

Past[]

Kanedama first came to be when humanity's negative emotions physically manifested and formed thier own group under the leadership of the most powerful of thier kind; Daimaou. Kanedama was originally a benevolent Youkai granting good luck to people but he eventually turned evil like the rest of his kind. Six thousand years ago, Kanedama was among the army of Yokai who attacked Ninjaman whilst he defended a village. Kanedama managed to escape but Ninjaman was banished by the Three God Generals as he slaughtered his entire village after mistaking them for Yokai.

Kanedama was ultimately among the Yokai who managed to avoid being sealed behind the Seal Door by the Ancient Kakurangers but was reduced to a human form when the Yo Power was sealed with Daimaou.

Kakuranger[]

By 1994, Kanedama has evolved into a slot machine-like Youkai by the time that the Yo Power is released by Kappa.

After the death of Tengu, Kanedama employs the help of Professor Yugami to create special coins so that everyone in Tokyo will gain bad luck and he can extort them for his services in dispelling the bad luck. He spreads them across the city one night only to be confronted by Sasuke who has overheard his loud chanting. Although Sasuke demands that he leave, Kanedama reveals his scheme and attacks only for Sasuke to vanish and then cut him down morphed. The Youkai tries to impale him with special coins but they are blocked by the Kakuremaru and he is knocked down by the Red Slicer just to be saved by Yugami's intervention which allows the Youkai to continue his plan. The next day, Kanedama goes to a local baker's as the exorcist Fukuo Daikichi who promises to fix thier bad luck after the baker passes out. The wife refuses since he is exploiting suffering for profit but the neighbours take him up on his offer and he solves thier problems by making the coins vanishing and collecting thier payments. When he is underpaid" for his services though, Kanedama takes more extreme methods such as taking a man's clothes when only paid ¥30,000 Yen ($222 USD) for returning his girlfriend or looting a woman when she only gave him ¥100,000 ($739 USD) for returning her pet chameleon.

Afterwards, Kanedama returns to the baker's wife who still refuses since she considers him a scam and the Kakurangers throw him out though not before he threatens worse luck in the future. As Sasuke finds the coin though, Kanedama in his true form uses his powers to cause even greater misfortune before entering and again offering his services just to be thrown out before swearing revenge through true misfortune. Later, Kanedama plants a coin on Nekomaru and causes chaos only for the Kakurangers to spot him, morph and beat him down with thier Shinobi Knucles. After they send him flying though, the chaos at Nekomaru distracts them long enough for Kanedama to escape and he later returns to the bakery as Dr Daikichi but is exposed when Sasuke reveals a lump on his head received from the beat-down earlier. However, he decides to take revenge on the baker's wife by throwing handfuls of coins at the wall and activating them all at once which brings lethal luck to her child.

Unfortunately for Kanedama, Sasuke saves the boy and the Youkai is cut off by the Kakurangers in a pipe yard and gunned down. Although he gains the upper-hand by smacking them down and stealing Saizou and Seikai's KakuLasers, they use thier Art of Replacement which allows Sasuke to Shinobi Knuckle punch Kanedama down and defeat him with the Full Moon Cut. The enraged Youkai then enlarges himself so they summon the Beast General Fighters. Kanedama tries to obliterate them but they are unfazed and he is punched back by Battle Kark and Battle Logan and defeated by kicks from Battle Kumard and Battle Gammer. Before he can recover, the Beast General Fighters kill him with the Fighter Crash.

Kanedama is recalled by Professor Yugami to Keukegen alongside Tengu as having fought and been defeated by the Beast General Fighters. He upgrades the monster under order by Gashadokuro and tells him to get revenge for the defeats of the previous two Youkai but he is killed anyway.

Kanedama is recalled by the Announcer whilst recapping the Kakurangers' war against the Yokai during his feature on the Kakurangers.

Kanedama is seen, along with all the other defeated Yokai, behind the Seal Door after Daimaou is finally sealed away by the Kakurangers. Reeling that they are now powerless in captivity, the Yokai all vow that they will one day be reborn and regain their power, cursing humanity.

Personality[]

As explained by the Announcer, Kanedama was originally a far kinder and more generous Youkai but he eventually turned evil due to extreme greed. By the modern era, he became an extremely greedy and arrogant Youkai who only wanted to rip people off for profit. As Fukuo Daikichi, Kanedama was overly flamboyant and friendly though he used this to hide his most sinister personality which he displayed clearly when he ripped a man's clothes off of him after he was "underpaid."

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Strength: Kanedama was able to grab and throw Sasuke by his throat as well as take down each of the Kakurangers with single hits from his magnet.
  • Durability: Kanedama was repeatedly punched by the Shimobi Knuckles and kicked without injuries. Even Sasuke's Full Moon Cut and being punched back by Battle Logan and Battle Kark didn't hurt him.
  • Longevity: Kanedama survived for at least six thousand years with no side effects.
  • Human Form: Kanedama could assume the form of a human priest by fading in and out of existence.
  • Greed Coin Production: Kanedama could pull a lever on his side to spew his special coins from a slot on his gut.
  • Stability: Kanedama could remain upright despite Sasuke springing off of him.
  • Bilingualism: Kanedama could fluently speak both English and Japanese.
  • Teleportation: Kanedama could teleport to any location at will by fazing in and out of existence.
  • Weapons Combat: Kanedama was able to defeat all five Kakurangers in battle with his magnet.
  • Yokai Lightning Cloud Summoning: Kanedama was able to summon the Yokai Lightning Cloud to enlarge herself with its Yo Power.
  • Energy Blasts: Kanedama could fire white energy blasts from his right hand. This caused a large explosion but didn't faze the Beast General Fighters.

Weaknesses[]

  • Human Form Connection: Any injuries dealt to Kanedama in his true form would reflect on his human form like a pained limp which was how he was ultimately exposed.

Arsenal[]

  • Magnet: Kanedama wielded a red-white magnet that he could wield like a club.
    • Misfortune Causing: Kanedama was able to point his magnet and use it to activate his coins and cause misfortune to anyone inside the building they were planted in.
    • Art of Thievery: Kanedama was able to use his magnet to steal metal objects.
  • Misfortune Coins: Kanedama planted special coins across Tokyo to make everyone experience extreme bad luck when he activated them with his magnet. Thier effects included making a girlfriend break up with her boyfriend, making a chameleon run away from home and making bakers pass out.
    • Ultimate Misfortune: The greatest extent of Kanedama's ability involved throwing and activating an entire handful of them and would kill thier child as this is a parent's "ultimate misfortune."
    • Coin Shurikens: Kanedama could also throw his coins to impale his enemy like shuriken but Sasuke deflected all of them.
  • KakuLasers: Kanedama stole Saizou and Seikai's KakuLasers and tried to kill the five with them.
