Kaneki's mother is a minor antagonist in the manga/anime series Tokyo Ghoul. She was Ken Kaneki's mother who died before the start of the story as she raised her son by herself till, he was 10 years old as she overworked herself to death. She may have appeared kind-hearted, but she abused Kaneki which made Kaneki resent her and not care for her anymore, even in death.
She was voiced by Rieko Takahashi in the Japanese version and Anastasia Munoz in the English version.
Personality[]
Kaneki's mother appeared to be very kind and understanding as she wanted to help people ahead of herself. She believed that a person should only find love from happiness and that it better to be hurt than to hurt others which is advise Kaneki took to heart. However, she's a massive hypocrite as she failed to take her own advice as she frequently hit and abuse Kaneki while putting everyone else's needs above his own which made Kaneki resent her deeply inside. Her main motivation for overworking was to help her sister with her "financial issues" as she wanted to support her too which proved to be her biggest mistake as her sister never needed the money, she just wanted more which means she gave her own life up for nothing. She is also a coward as she ran away from any responsibility to take of her son and chose to distant herself from him which sealed his feelings for her as he referred to her as a "maggot" showing that Kaneki doesn't care about her anymore and saying she deserved her fate.

- Other than Rize, she is the main reason why Kaneki became a darker character as her advice of "it's better to be hurt than to hurt others" is what caused Kaneki to become very broken from the torture he experienced from Yamori and caused him to give up his humanity in order to survive.
