~ Janet Van Dyne on the formation of Kang's Empire |
Kang's Empire are the secondary antagonists of the 2023 MCU Superhero film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It is a highly advanced but totalitarian regime that was founded by Kang the Conqueror who was permanently trapped in the Quantum Realm by Janet Van Dyne after she learned of his true identity and nature.
Throughout the entirety of his reign, Kang is infamously known for ruling his empire with an iron fist, leading him to be seen as a tyrant by the inhabitants of the Quantum Realm, who failed to overthrow his regime, due to the empire's advanced technology.
Following Kang's defeat and death at the hands of Scott Lang/Antman, his empire was deposed and disbanded, bringing an end to its tyranny for good, allowing the inhabitants of the Quantum Realm to regain their independence.
History[]
After Kang was banished and imprisoned in the Quantum Realm by the Council of Kangs, he was left stranded in the realm, as his multiversal engine core has been sabotaged, leaving him powerless. Though he was left at the mercy of predators living in the Quantum Realm, however, he was saved by Janet Van Dyne, the wife of Dr. Hank Pyne and the original Wasp, who also got lost in the realm, after she sacrificed herself to disarm a Soviet missile during the Cold War. When she met Kang, she believed that he is also a lost person, and the two became friends, though the former was unaware of Kang's past and origins. Together, they sought to find a way to recharge Kang's time sphere, a highly technological chair that allowed him to travel through the Multiverse.
Many years later, after many failed attempts, Van Dyne and Kang were successful in reactivating Kang's multiversal engine core, the time sphere's power source, finally giving them the chance to escape the Quantum Realm. But as they loaded the core, Van Dyne gains access to Kang's memories of the Multiversal War, and she was horrified to learn of who her "friend" truly was. Kang realized this and tried to convince her that he can still take her home, but Van Dyne, now fully knowing that he is a threat to the Multiverse, proceeded to betray him by shrinking the core and stealing it to ensure that Kang would not escape but the latter, with his recently-recovered powers creates a shockwave to stop her.
Knowing that she couldn't defeat Kang, Van Dyne proceeded to enlarge the core, causing it to be rendered unstable, causing both herself and Kang to be trapped in the Quantum Realm for all eternity.
Forming his empire[]
Despite this setback, Kang uses his powers to gain access to technology and weaponry from the 31st Century, allowing him to conquer and annex the Quantum Realm, which turned from being his prison to an all-powerful empire. To ensure order in his regime, he creates a race of robot-like beings called Quantumnauts to serve as his personal army and military. The formation of Kang's Empire is not without cost, as many civilizations in the Quantum Realm had been destroyed, displacing the inhabitants of the respective civilizations in the process. While building his empire, Kang constructs the city of Axia as his seat of power and the capital of his regime.
Tyranny[]
Fully establishing his rule over the Quantum Realm, Kang the Conqueror reigned over his mighty empire with an iron fist, becoming the realm's tyrannical ruler/dictator in the process.
This caused many displaced inhabitants in the realm to gather together to form an insurgency group called the Freedom Fighters, to oppose and combat the regime and its forces through guerrilla warfare. Among those who formed the rebel organization was Janet Van Dyne, who felt responsible for Kang's rise to power. Despite the efforts of the Freedom Fighters, they were never close to accomplishing their goals, as their attempts at rebellion were always crushed by Kang. As a result of their failures, some members of the Freedom Fighters became disillusioned, and, desperate to survive, they betrayed their comrades to serve Kang's empire. Amongst the betrayers was Krylar, whom Kang appoints as Governor of Axia.
Axia[]
The city of Axia was built by Kang to serve as both his seat of power and the capital of his empire. Within it is the Celestium, Kang's citadel, which served as the latter's base of operations. It also includes a communications tower and a prison, where Kang imprisons and tortures his prisoners/enemies.
Military[]
Kang's military force consist entirely of Quantumnauts, robotic-like beings, who serve as his personal army and to maintain order in Kang's empire.
