You’re the same… manipulating, sniveling sorcerer that underestimates those around him. YOU. CAN'T. BEAT. ME! No one can. I made this world. And I’ll make it… again and again and again. Kano, also commonly referred to as King Kano, is the main antagonist of the Mortal Kombat Legends series, being a major antagonist in Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge and the main antagonist of Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind.
He is once again the ruthless leader of the Black Dragon willing to do anything for a quick payment, who is being tracked down by the special forces and Sonya Blade. He initially works for Shang Tsung during his tournament to make Earthrealm lose before immediately the sorcceror for his own game, but he seemingly ends up killed during a battle with Sonya, Johnny and Jax.
However, Kano would return in the third film. Having been brought back but now as almost a full cyborg, Kano would end up using Kronika's hourglass to turn the world into a desolate wasteland where he would install himself as King.
He was voiced by Robin Atkin Downes (who also voiced Shinnok and Reiko in Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, Baron Zemo and Abomination in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Deathstroke in Beware the Batman, Genesis Rhapsodos in Dirge of Cerberus, Hex in Ben 10 (2016), the Riddler in Batman: The Enemy Within, Luxord in Kingdom Hearts, the Prophet of Regret in Halo 2, Mysterio in Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, Mumm-Ra in Thundercats (2011) and the Medic in Team Fortress 2) in Scorpion's Revenge, and David Wenham (who also played Harold Meachum in Iron Fist) in Snow Blind.
Biography[]
Past[]
Sometime in the very distant past in another timeline, likely MK11, Kano would manage to kill Kronika and steal her hourglass from her. Kano would start forcing people such as Sonya Blade and Cassie Cage to fight to the death for his own amusement, however, Kano would very quickly get bored due to there being no challenge in constantly winning with no struggle. Kano would start resetting the entire timeline, always making sure to leave what he wanted slightly out of reach. Kano would still often win due to having much on his side, but every time he won it felt more satisfying for him, knowing that the day he finally loses will feel far better. He would reset the timeline over and over again eventually leading to the events of the entire Legends universe.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge[]
Kano is hired by Shang Tsung to help him win the tournament. He starts off the movie by bringing in Jax to be killed by Goro as a demonstration, but it's stopped by Raiden, so Kano takes Jax away. He and his goons also guard Shang Tsung's fortress. Later in the movie, he takes a kidnapped Jax underground, but is ultimately stopped and killed by Sonya Blade.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind[]
Kano at some point would end up revived, likely by his Black Dragon members or Kronika's hourglass. However, likely as a result of this, Kano would be turned into nearly a full cyborg with no soul at all, not that Kano minded. Kano would use Kronika's hourglass to unleash an army of revenants onto Earthrealm that, despite the best efforts of the heroes, would end up decimating much of Earthrealm and killing off a large amount of it with the survivors inside very small villages.
Kano would install himself as the self-proclaimed "King" of the Earthrealm wastelands. He would frequently attack small villages killing off a large majority of them and anyone that refused to join him, and then force whoever was left to join his gang of Black Dragon members. Kano would employ many people to his cause including, Kabal, Erron Black, Kira, Kobra, Ferra, Torr, Drahmin, No Face, Dairou, Tremor, Jarek and even Shang Tsung. Kano eventually ended up conquering a large amount of what was left of Earthrealm, killing thousands to millions of people in the process.
Early on in the film, Kabal, Kira, and Kobra discover a hidden village by following an elderly Sub-Zero and are defeated by Kenshi Takahashi. They report back to Kano has is conducting a fight to the death between two women and when one beats the other and refuses to kill them Kano kills them on the spot. When Kabal, Kira, and Kobra tell Kano what happened they send them back with Tremor under the watch of Shang Tsung. While there Shang Tsung absorbs thousands of souls after tricking Kenshi. Shang Tsung attempts to murder Kano and take his place. Shang Tsung initially gets the upper hand but when he attempts to absorb Kano's soul it doesn't work as Kano doesn't have a soul. Kano then retaliates and manages to kill Shang Tsung very quickly.
Kano would next take over another village, killing a large number of people and forcing the rest to submit to him. When one old man refuses to bow down to him Kano has him executed on the spot. Later on, Kenshi challenges Kano to try and free the village from his grasp but he is easily defeated. Kano then plans to have him executed but takes the time to slowly torture Kenshi before having him killed. However, just as Kano is about to kill Kenshi, Sub-Zero and Scorpion show up, freeing Kenshi and eventually killing a large amount of the Black Dragons.
Kano retreats to his secret room that contains Kronika's hourglass. Sub-Zero follows Kano where Kano explains how he used the hourglass to remake Earthrealm by sending the revenants and giving something for people to fear so that he could control them, after he first erases Sub-Zero from existence using the hourglass. Kano is nearly able to do so multiple times, but after a long battle, Kano is crushed by gears and the heroes blow up the place.
Trivia[]
- In the director's commentary, it is revealed that the Kano in this film is the result of his arcade ending in Mortal Kombat 11 where he kills Kronika and takes her hourglass, reshaping reality in his image. The entire universe of Mortal Kombat Legends is the result of Kano resetting the timeline after he got bored.
